World Maker Faire - in NYC this weekend
September 20-21st
As part of our focus this year on Innovation we are letting parents know about an exciting event happening at the New York Hall of Science. Some teachers and I will be attending the World Maker Faire on Saturday and we want to encourage any families that are interested to find our more about the event and consider attending this weekend. We hope to hold a Maker Faire here at Riverside this year and we are looking for some great ideas on the project when we visit. You can read more about it here and look up ticket information at Maker Faire
Special pricing ends online at midnight tonight.
You are invited to Riverside School's Open House
To accommodate parents with multiple children at Riverside, we will offer two open house meeting times on Thursday, October 2.
Grade K-2 6:30-7-15 pm in the classrooms
Grades 3-5 7:30-8:15 pm in the classrooms
Specialists (Music, Art, PE, ESOL, ALP, Reading, Media, etc.)
will be available to meet with any interested parents
from 7- 7:45 pm that evening.
Parking Lot Reminder
Please note that the driveway at the front of the school is the only area allowed for drop off or pick up (remember to remain in your car if waiting in the pick up lane). The main parking lot (by the gym) is for parking only. It is not for drop off or pick up at any time. Also, please remember to not block a parking spot or parked car at any time. Thank you for helping keep all of our students safe.
No sharing of food at lunch
Please be aware that if on a special occasion you are bringing in a lunch for your child, this should only include one child-sized portion, since sharing of any food or drinks is not allowed in the cafeteria due to known or unknown allergies that other children might have.

FROM THE NURSE
|
1. Flu Season begins October 1st through March 31st. The best way to prevent flu outbreaks is to be for you and your children to be vaccinated. The CDC says everyone 6 months or older should get an annual vaccination. If you have any questions or concerns please contact your Health Care Provider.
2. Please complete your child's Emergency Form & return to the office. If you have a Nanny or Sitter please include their names on this form. Also remember to alert the office of any changes on this form that occur during the year. The Nurse uses this information to contact parents.
3. There are many outstanding Grade 3 Physicals. If you need another form please contact the Health Office.
4. For your information a respiratory illness, Enterovirus D 68 is causing many children with a history of asthma in 12 states to become very ill & need hospital stays. This illness starts as a common cold but then there is fever, difficulty breathing and sometimes a rash. This virus is spread when an infected person coughs, sneezes or some one touches contaminated surfaces. It is diagnosed by your Doctor swabbing nose or throat and sending these specimens to a special lab such as the CDC. The best preventive measure is frequent hand washing. Please click here for important information on the Enterovirus.
