All guests, family, and friends are welcome. This is an All-academy event, so whether your son or daughter is at or was at the USMA, USNA or USAFA, or you are an academy grad, you are all welcome to attend as we are all united in the bonds of the military family.
USMA Candidates/Cadets are free.
This Year's Keynote Speaker
COL William J. Leady Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District Commander West Point Class of 1987 As District Commander, Col Leady overseers a staff of 1150 people and about $800 million of annual work. Sacramento District operates ten major dams in California, which reduce flood risk and provide water storage, hydropower and recreation. The district's area of responsibility includes all or part of eight western states, from California to Colorado. Leady previously commanded the Corps' Detroit District from 2006-2008. He has served in a variety of leadership positions with the U.S. Army at Fort Lewis, WA; Fort Drum, NY; and in Germany, Belgium and Korea. He has deployed in support of Operation Desert Storm (1991), Operation Restore Hope (Somalia - 1993), Operation Restore Democracy (Haiti - 1994), Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan - 2005-06) and Operation Iraqi Freedom (2003 and 2008-09).
Leady holds a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from the United States Military Academy (1987) and a master of science in environmental engineering from Purdue University. He is a graduate of the U.S. Army Ranger, Airborne, and Air Assault courses, the Engineer Officer Basic and Advanced courses and the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College. He is a registered professional engineer in Virginia and a native of Indiana
Given all of the issues surrounding water in California, especially the Delta, Col Leady should have an interesting perspective on our future. Please RSVP by April 10, 2013 http://bit.ly/Cline2013

Sequestration and West Point
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It happened. Let your congressman and senator know how you feel about their performance
Editor's Note: Contact your elected officials and tell them your opinion on getting the budget problem fixed. My Editor opinion is put on your overall taxpayer perspective, not just your WP perspective, when voicing your opinion on getting the budget fixed. Rumor/Speculation is one less week for Beast and one less week for CDLT. All rumors and speculation, so please do not run with it. Run instead to your elected official and get them to do a planned budget instead of an arbitrary one. As soon as we know about the training schedule, we'll share it.
Guest Speaker - CPT (P) Scotty Smiley (USMA Class 2003)
MAJ Smiley, a Ranger and combat-diver qualified infantryman, was the Army's first active duty, blind officer and the first blind company commander.As the first active duty blind U.S. Army officer, Smiley has inspired many with his triumphant real-life story of overcoming a major setback to fulfill his dreams. Nearly eight years ago, while serving in Iraq, an explosion caused by a suicide bomber left Smiley without sight in both eyes. Though this was devastating for the West Point graduate, his unyielding spirit ultimately paved the way for him to earn an MBA, win a 2008 ESPY award for World's Best Outdoor Athlete, and publish an autobiography titled "Hope Unseen." The highly decorated war veteran (recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star) was bestowed the General MacArthur Leadership Award and was named Soldier of the Year in 2007 by the Army Times. He has been a guest on major media outlets such as Fox News and CNN. In addition to being a devoted husband and father, MAJOR Smiley currently works with the Gonzaga University ROTC Program. He often speaks to various corporations, churches, and educational groups about the power of hope, optimism and perseverance. Scotty and his wife Tiffany are the proud parents of two young children. ***********************************
It's Tax Season. Your cadet for the 2012 Tax Year will most likely not be a tax deduction for you. Consult your tax consultant, but the support estimate for their plebe year from July to December 2012 is upwards of $40,000 based on tax letter for the Class of 2016 Consequently, unless you can demonstrate costs for your son/daughter of more than $40k, it is not likely you can claim them as a deduction. The plebes, as are all cadets, will need to file their own tax returns and have support at West Point to help them out.
IMPORTANT TAX UPDATE FOR ALL CADETS
FYI to cadets and parents regarding Education Credits (American Opportunity Credit and Lifetime
Learning Credit) and the Tuition and Fees Deduction. Unfortunately, neither
cadets nor parents may claim any of these valuable credits or deductions for
