Press reports advise that Polartec is closing its manufacturing operations in Lowell Mass, and that they will move manufacturing to the United Knitting facility in Cleveland Tennessee and to an existing Polartec facility in New Hampshire

AKC Note: Polartec bought United Knitting in Cleveland TN in September 2015. There was plenty of talk in the industry at the time, but there did not seem to be any official announcement. The new announcements indicate that manufacturing will move from LowelI to Cleveland but it is unclear if the Polartec headquarters will relocate. Reports are that up to 300 jobs will be lost in Lowell although this includes part time and seasonal workers, separate reports indicate that approximately 200 jobs will be added at the Cleveland location. Current employment at United Knitting is estimated at approximately 50 people. United Knitting has been a supplier to Polartec for some years. Timing of the closure and relocation is not specified.
