Two news items today in the carpet industry:

 

1)    Pharr Yarns buys Phenix Flooring

AKC Note: Pharr Yarns of McAdenville, NC has been expanding its BCF yarn capacity over the last few years with a focus on polyester at a time that the U.S. market capacity for polyester BCF has grown from an estimated 175 million pounds in 2008 to an estimated 1 billion lbs in 2015. A significant part of Pharr's production has been supplied to Phenix Flooring.

 

2)    Mohawk Industries has announced the agreement to acquire the IVC Group in a deal worth $1.2 billion:

AKC Note: Prior to this acquisition Mohawk reported global sales of $7.7 billion, making them the largest floor covering company in the world. IVC is a Belgium based company with a strong position in vinyl sheet and luxury vinyl tile (LVT) products. In January 2014 IVC announced an $80 million investment in a new LVT plant in Dalton, GA with start up scheduled for Q1 2015. At the same time Mohawk is also building an LVT plant in Belgium.
