Mitsubishi Rayon announces plans to double carbon fiber capacity at its U.S. plant in California:

 


AKC Note: The carbon fiber industry in the U.S. is on a significant growth spurt. In addition to this Mitsubishi increase of 2,000 tons per year, SGL announced a 2 stage tripling of capacity at its Moses Lake, WA  j/v plant with BMW bringing capacity up from 3,000 tons to 9,000 tons in 2 phases. Cytec announced that the doubling of its carbon fiber plant in Greenville, SC will be in commercial operation in early 2016. Toray announced a $1 billion long term investment in a new carbon fiber (and possibly precursor) plant in Spartanburg in February 2014. All these announcements in the last 5 months.
