Some Thoughts From Your Inspector...
Standing water behind your home?

Maybe not this extreme... but if you have standing water behind your home you are usually a good candidate for gutters or some positive grade away from the foundation. Excess water can cause issues with your foundation over time. Not to mention turn your yard into a soggy mess. The vast majority of water issues in the basement can be corrected by gutters or grade adjustment. Before you drop some significant money on a drain tile system take a look at some much cheaper alternatives that maybe far easier to do and have the same results.

So thats what it looks like... hmmm.

It was about this time last year that a good portion of the snow had melted away from the foreclosed home that we had just purchased. And boy do I wish I could put the snow back. I guess thats the chance you take when buying a home in the winter. About half of the boulder retaining walls had been removed. Most of the custom curb edging was taken, although I am not sure why someone would want to take that stuff. Once you pull it out it is virtually useless. All the patio pavers were taken from the walkways in the yard and a good deal of plants were gone as well.  Apparently they had a landscape removal party for the family and friends before they were kicked out as our neighbors explained. I guess all is not lost, we get to redo it how we want to this summer.  The moral of the story.... be prepared for surprises when buying REO homes in the winter!

Spring is teasing!

Well 53 degree weather isn't exactly what I was hoping for before the end of February. No more snowmobiling, ice house had to come off the lake for fear of it being stranded out there, and now I can barely drive down the road due to to all the fog from the evaporation. I am probably in the minority on this thinking but I was hoping we would break the snowfall record this year. I a winter guy at heart as long as there is snow. If there is no snow there is no use for 10 degree temperatures. Here is a nice shot of my homemade boots I had to use to get our ice house off Prior Lake. There was about 2" of standing water and I forgot my BOOTS! Felt a bit like I was back in elementary school bread bagging it in my moon boots.
