Spotlight
Emma Norton Services (ENS) is a nonprofit organization actively combating poverty in our communities by partnering with women, children and families who are homeless and facing the challenges of mental illness and chemical dependency. They provide safe, affordable housing, basic needs, and support services in an environment that fosters stability and encourages personal growth. ENS has two locations: Emma Norton Residence in Saint Paul providing 50 women with safe, stable and affordable housing; and Emma's Place in Maplewood, providing permanent supportive housing for 13 homeless families with three or more children. In 2015, ENS served 109 women at Emma Norton Residence, and 19 families with 88 children at Emma's Place with over 1600 volunteer hours.
On October 13, ENS is having its annual celebration, Voices for Victory, around the theme "We can end homeless"...because we can! Tickets are available.

$15/hr Minimum Wage Update from Minneapolis
In September 2015, the City Council authorized the issuance of a Request for Proposals for a comprehensive economic analysis of the effects of an increased minimum wage, both locally and in Hennepin and Ramsey County. The contract for that economic analysis was awarded to a team of researchers from the University of Minnesota, Howard University, Rutgers University, and the Economic Policy Institute. That research team-led by the Roy Wilkins Center at the University of Minnesota-replicated techniques used in prevalent economic literature to simulate the relative impact of a minimum wage at $12 and $15 per hour. The complete report can be read here.
