SPACC PAC says Nix will be a strong advocate for economic development in Saint Paul

(SAINT PAUL, MINN., AUGUST 29, 2013) Nix as he seeks election to Saint Paul's Ward 1 City Council seat. Nix has served for the past two years as the legislative aide for Ward 1.
A Special Election is being held to fill the Ward 1 seat vacated by the resignation of Councilmember Melvin Carter. The election will be held on Tuesday, November 5. There is no primary election -- Ranked Choice Voting will be used to determine the winner and seven candidates will be on the ballot.

Prior to working at City Hall, Noel gained experience in the private and nonprofit sectors working on housing and economic development issues. That background will serve him and the City of Saint Paul well at a time when Ward 1 has the opportunity to leverage huge public and private investments along University Avenue and the Central Corridor LRT Green Line.

"Noel has established a track record of reaching out to the business community to address challenging issues in Ward 1, and he understands the importance of removing barriers to economic growth that provide jobs and strengthen the city's tax base," said Brian McClung, Chair of the Saint Paul Area Chamber PAC. "Noel will be a great partner and advocate for economic development in Ward 1 and throughout the city."

The Saint Paul Chamber PAC was created in 1997. Earlier this year, the SPACC PAC endorsed Saint Paul Mayor Chris Coleman and Saint Paul Public Schools Board Chair Jean O'Connell for re-election. In 2012, the SPACC PAC endorsed winning candidates Blake Huffman and Victoria Reinhardt in their races for Ramsey County Commissioner. The PAC plans to announce endorsements for the Maplewood mayoral and city council elections soon.

Information about candidates seeking office in Saint Paul and the East Metro can be found on the Saint Paul Area Chamber's Civic Engagement Guide, including candidate responses to questions important to the business community. Questionnaire responses will be added to the guide throughout the election season.
