A Few Words from Regina...

Happy December!

I'm receiving many newsletters this month with encouraging advice on how to make this holiday your best, most organized, most fun, most time with your family and friends. Magazines, and Lifestyle sections of national and local newspapers tout similar messages. I imagine that most of the people reading these "to how" messages are already in the flurry of "getting ready," and many will hold on to the good advice to apply to their 2016 seasonal planning.

The final month of the year is less about getting ready for the final days of the month, and more about looking the year ahead. What do you want to accomplish in 2016? How will you make a plan then work the plan? What do you need to deliberately, successfully, and satisfactorily do to see things through to accomplishment?

Here are some tips to get you started as you journey through your next awesome year!

From all of us at A Clear Path, I wish you all a warm and love-filled end to 2015 and look forward to a new year filled with a de-cluttered and organized heart, mind, and home!

Love, Regina

Top 10 Tips: Goal Setting Done Right

1Why do we set goals? The purpose of goal setting is to help you decide what you want to achieve in life. It helps prioritize what is important to your personal evolution as you stay motivated and positive. With each small win, you boost your self-confidence and surprise yourself with that of which you are capable.

2. Decide what you want to achieve and work towards it. There are several usual categories of goal setting: career, financial, education, family, artistic, attitude, physical, pleasure, public service.

3. Ensure your goal is SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, time sensitive). A specific goal answers who, what, where, when, why. It is a good idea to write your goal so they are clear for you. It is important to ensure that you can tell that you've made progress on your goal. Similarly, if your goal doesn't mean anything to you, it is probably not worth pursuing. Finally, your goal must have a deadline for it to become a reality and not an idea.

4. Break down your goal into smaller ones. Use a calendar to help keep you on track with where you want to be. By creating manageable weekly (or even daily) pieces, your goal will be reasonable to accomplish and to track your progress. To start, look at your yearly goal and work backwards. If you know where you want to be in a year, cut that in half: that is your six-month goal. Then cut that in half and there is your three-month goal. Continue this process until you have a goal plan that works for you. If your goal is more complex, create a one-year goal, then a medium term, then short term goal.

For example:
  • One year goal: Work from home
  • Medium term goal: Start an online based small business
  • Short term goal: Brainstorm small business ideas that I am passionate about that generate revenue.

5. Get yourself organized. What tools will you need to achieve your goal? If you lay out everything you need to do (To-Do lists, deadlines, calendaring), the action you need to take is easier because you just need to follow through on the plan you already made.
