A few words from Regina....

Tra-la! It's Spring!

The skies in Los Angeles are clear and bright, my geraniums are crazy with color, and I had a great bike ride last weekend along the Redondo Pier.

I'm also thinking about freshening up my apartment. Well, actually, I'm no longer thinking about it; I've committed a date to my calendar. When I'm freshening up for Spring, I get up early, eat a protein-filled breakfast, blast the Les Miserables sound track, roll up my sleeves and get it done! I love the effect of getting a house out of winter (even an L.A. winter!) and I'll be using some of the tips below (I have no kids' toys to clean!).

On another note... Are you a blog reader? Did you know that our weekly Clear Path blog features a variety of topics and guest bloggers, mostly other Professional Organizers - my friends and colleagues around the world - adding great content and featured on our website. Check it out when you have a few moments - and subscribe for a while if that suits you: http://aclearpath.net/blog/

Thanks always for your support and good wishes...

Happy Spring Clearing!

Top 10 Tips: Spring Cleaning

1. Disinfect your garbage disposal. To eliminate odors, drop a cut-up lemon in your sink garbage disposal. Add some salt and a few ice cubes. The lemon deodorizes while the ice and salt clean up the dried on food.

2. Clean your computer. If you are afraid to lose files you may need some day, back them up on a hard drive or thumb drive and delete them on your computer for more storage capacity. Clearly label the external drive where you put the files so you know what is there. This is a great chance for you to clear out your photo library as well. Also, delete or file your e-mail messages. If you're one who has over 100 unread messages, take it slow and go through 20 a day until you are on top of your inbox.

3. Make your bed. No, I'm not talking about just fluffing the pillows and making the comforter look pretty. Get a vacuum hose and vacuum the box springs. Wash or dry clean the mattress pad and pillows.

4. Clean your painted walls. You can do this with a sponge and some warm water. If it's been a while and you need some heavy duty cleaning, dilute mild dishwashing liquid with warm water and use that. The milder the dishwashing liquid, the less likely it is to take the paint off. If you are unsure about the quality of your paint, test a small area.

5. Reorganize your bookshelf and donate what you no longer need or want to your local library. You can organize the books by author, genre, height, most used, etc. Pick a system that is easiest for you to maintain and locate what you are looking for immediately.
