December is an exciting time of year marked by time off from work, sharing good food with family and friends, and gift exchanges galore!
And yet... as a professional organizer I can't help but cringe at the marketing and advertising that surrounds this month-long celebration. I know I'll be called in to clear and untangle an amazing array of holiday booty stashed in every corner, cubby, and cupboard - spaces already crowded with the gifts our clients received last year!
So before a single new thing enters your space this holiday season, take the time (start today!) to clear the path of that which you know you'll never use, or never really wanted at all. Here are a few tips to help get you started.
And from all of us at A Clear Path - Mary, Cathy, Kalina, Richard, Tanisha, Cary, Aiisa, Brie, Kimberly, Toni, and Regina -we offer this wish for your celebrations: warmth, love, good memories, and as much stuff as you need and will actually use! Happy Everything!!

Top Tips: Release the Old, Welcome the New
| |
As you do your own space-clearing, think about the clutter and over-crowding in the homes of your loved ones and friends. Rather than something tangible, give the gift of a really cool experience by helping them clear out their clutter! Host a de-clutter party before the holiday season starts with your friends, family, or co-workers to ensure space for new items and to start the New Year organized. You are not alone in your clutter nor in your desire for cleared spaces! You and your friends will learn how to encourage each other to keep the path clear of clutter and chaos. For more information, click HERE

Make sure there is space for new stuff and the guests you are hosting this holiday season. What will you let go of to ensure you have room for your new things? If you are replacing an item, be sure to donate or discard the old item it is replacing. If letting go of the old item presents a challenge, we remind you to hold on to your memory, not your objects. Ask yourself: how does this item serve my body, my mind, my spirit? If the item does not serve you, you do not need it cluttering your home.
While you clear the path of stuff you don't need, see if you can identify the habits and behaviors responsible for the piles. What do you accumulate and why do you not discard those items?
Re-gift that which no longer serves a useful purpose in your life.We promise we won't tell!

Decide now: what's the plan for all the pictures you're taking this holiday season?
Stumped on what to get yourself or clutter-bug friends? We recommend the book Psychic Debris: The Relationship Between the Clutter in Your Head and What's Under Your Bed.
