1. Keep a June, July, August monthly calendar open and updated as necessary. This will help you map out and keep track of your summer plans.

2. Write your packing list before your vacation. I often think of random items I need to pack when I'm out and about, and immediately make a note in my phone so I don't forget. Don't forget to mark off the items on the list as you pack! Better yet, pack a few days in advance. Be sure to include a "locking up" checklist as well.
3. Schedule the kids' activities and carpools. Whether it's summer camps, play dates, or long weekends away, help yourself and your parent friends by coordinating a car pool.
4. Have a yard sale. Unless you are an e-bay expert, the best way to quickly get rid of unused items is having a yard sale. Get to know your neighbors and see if they are willing to barter items they do not use but you need and vice versa.
5. Cycle-in your summer attire. There is definitely no more need for winter coats, shoes and gear, so put them in the back of the closet until the weather get cooler again.
6. Prepare to-go meals and keep fresh fruit for grab-and-go snacks. If you are tight on time, use your multi-tasking skills and prepare the snacks while talking on the phone or preparing other meals.
7. Take time to clean the forgotten dust collectors: windows, washboards, fans, and crown molding. Afterwards you will notice a brighter, better smelling room to enjoy all summer.
8. Stay on top of pests by putting food away in airtight storage and giving pests no reason to invade your home. Don't forget your pet's flea and tick medicine and wear ample insect repellant before going on hikes where you are at risk of bites. Also, be mindful of ants when having a picnic!
9. Keep your summer essentials ready to go. I prefer to place a basket by the door with sunscreen, flip flops, lotion, etc. as my "collect all" for when I walk in the door because the items get used so much.
10. Schedule some down time. Take time to relax by scheduling a mini "afternoon vacation" so you can to enjoy "you" time. Have a personal project you've always wanted to start? Why not get started this summer?
