Our exploration will include aspects of subtle-body theory and experiential samples of yoga postures, breathwork, and meditation which help to support or restore the healthy function and balance of the chakras and the subtle-to-physical-body network.  Read more >

NEW CLASS
Slow Flow + Core

This is a NEW CLASS on our schedule !  Starts Friday, March 21
FRIDAYS @ 4:00 - 5:15 pm
with Lori & Carol

SLOW . RICH . SATISFYING.

We know that sometimes a traditional flow class is just too fast. For this class, we slow the flow down. When we take our time to get into a pose, we can focus more on our alignment rather than shifting into survival mode. Ultimately, by moving to a slower rhythm, we're able to work more intelligently and avoid injury. Our nervous system can relax a bit more, our minds start to slow down, our breath deepens and lengthens, and our inner chemistry shifts toward a biological balance which can be experienced as feeling grounded, being at ease, deeply relaxed, and peaceful.

All About Balance

Saturday, April 5
11:30 am - 2:00 pm

Find balance through alignment, strength, and focus.  If you've ever slipped, tripped, or tried to stand on one leg, you know the importance of balance. If your balance is a bit off or you're feeling rusty, yoga can help! Balance is a learned skill that can improve with practice. During this Yoga Posture Clinic with Lori McCormick, you'll get an in-depth look at basics of balance with respect to the most common yoga balance postures.
Better Breathing with Yoga
with Carol Knight

With the advent of spring and the ensuing allergy season, many of us have our minds on just one thing: BREATHING!  This workshop will explore the basic mechanics of breathing, as well as the effects of breath on the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems.  You will learn to apply simple, user-friendly breathing practices to enhance and support emotional and physical well-being (reduce stress) and improve the quality and awareness of your breath.  Read More >

Core Galore!
A 2-Hour Practice

Saturday, May 3
11:30 am - 1:30 pm

If you've taken one of Lori's Yoga Basics with Core Strengthening classes in the past, you have had a

taste of what this unique two-hour practice will include!
By learning and applying principles of core strength and stability to a yoga practice, common back injuries are avoided - both on and off the mat.  The roots of many common limitations and injuries in yoga often come from a lack of awareness and inability to properly engage core muscle groups, thereby leaving the joints and spine unsupported and vulnerable. Only by establishing a firm and properly aligned foundation can one safely enjoy playing the "edge" in yoga - both exploring individual possibilities and respecting individual limitations. (By learning how to connect and engage the inner body, it allows us to support the outer body.)  This understanding and connection to our center further helps us in learning how to deepen our yoga practice as we learn how to move from a place of strength, balance, support, and stability.
Mindfulness Mornings
Free Meditation Classes
with Dr. Marla McMahon

Saturday, March 1
10:00 - 10:45 am

Mindfulness meditation is a simple technique that anyone can learn. Studies have shown that a regular mindfulness practice can:   Improve overall health and sense of well-being... reduce stress, blood pressure, anxiety and depression... increase  concentration and immune function... and strengthen the ability to cope with the stressors of daily life.  In this class you will be guided through a series of meditations involving sitting and mindful movement.  You will gain a better familiarity with being present to the "here and now" and learn to be more mindful in your daily life.  (No meditation or yoga experience is necessary.  Free.  Karma donations accepted.)   Let us know you're coming

Private Somatic Yoga Sessions

Get help with your unique condition in a private setting.

You CAN feel better!   Lean how to relax and release tight, contracted muscles and improve motor function through a combination of yoga postures and meditative somatic movement.  This combined technique stimulates the brain and nervous system to release chronic muscle tension so that the brain can take back voluntary control of otherwise involuntarily contracted muscles.

While our brain and central nervous system controls our muscles and movement, it can also keep our bodies tight and contracted due to accidents, injuries, repetitive tasks, or on-going stress. If we sit at a computer all day long, our muscles learn to stay contracted only to a certain length in order to be ready to hold that same position again the next day. In other words, our muscles habituate to whatever it is we do repeatedly, and certain muscles become set, by the brain, at a certain length and get "stuck" on. Through neuromuscular re-patterning, students learn to re-educate their muscles to relieve habitual postural tensions and maladaptive movement habits while setting healthy, supportive muscle tone and joint function.

This unique, meditative floor-based practice gives priority to the internal experience and perception of movement, rather than in the external perfection of a pose.  Somatic Yoga is for everyone - including...

  • those with chronic pain (especially in the shoulders, back, and hips),
  • those with limited range-of-motion who want to move more efficiently and freely,
  • those who are recovering from trauma or an injury and are seeking to prevent future problems,
  • experienced yogis who are suffering from chronic instability, injury, pain or just want a more meditative practice.

Designed to be a safe and effective way to utilize our ability to self-heal, self-correct, and ultimately gain self-mastery while quieting the mind. (Based on Eleanor Criswell's Somatic Yoga & Thomas Hanna Somatics, and draws heavily from biofeedback research literature for actual effects of the practice.)
