Strake Scout Shop Now Open

As a part of the ongoing plan to relocate Camp Strake to its new location in Evergreen, Texas in 2016, a new Scout Shop named in honor of the Strake family to serve the northeast section of the council opened on March 31, 2014.  This new Strake Scout Shop, which consists of 3,000 square feet, is located in Conroe at the intersection of I-45 and S.H. 105 in The Crossroads Center. This new shop has replaced the old Scout Shop at Camp Strake, which is now permanently closed.

Bill Bomely, BSA Supply Group - Houston Territory Manager, said, "The new Strake Scout Shop is one of the finest in America with the newest Scout Shop designs and it carries an expanded line of merchandise."

The hours of operation are 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Monday thru Saturday.  The shop will be closed on Sundays.  More information about the grand opening and specials offered at the Strake Scout Shop to follow.

Friends of Scouting

Packs, Troops and Crews not yet scheduled for FOS unit presentations should contact your district executive or 713.756.3318.  All Friends of Scouting volunteers (presenters, schedulers, chairmen) are invited for an evening of Recognition, Instruction and Motivation!  The ALL IN-er Dinner will be held, Thursday April 24, Council office, 6:30 pm   RSVP here

Spring Membership

Congratulations to all the Cub Scouts who have taken the next step and crossed into Boy Scouts!  April is not too late to recruit brand new Tiger Cubs and get them involved in the program. Host a rally and invite your local school. If possible schedule "Boy Talks" for kindergarteners. Please remember that if you need help with scheduling, materials, and ideas you can contact your District's membership team or District Executive.

Now that recharters are complete, and crossover is wrapping up, it is a great time to organize a "Dropped Scout Call Night." This can be done by checking your current unit's roster and reaching out to youth who have dropped out or haven't been attending in a while. Boy Scout Troops can get involved and call boys who did not crossover from Cub Scouts or may still be looking for a Troop to call home. The call night is also a great idea for Venturing Crews too. If you need assistance with getting current rosters or organizing your call night you can contact your District Committee and District Executive for help.
With so much fun to come in the summer months we should try to get as many youth involved as possible!

NYLT is an exciting, action-packed program designed to provide youth members with leadership skills and experience they can use in their home troops and in other situations demanding leadership of self and others. Silver Beaver Award Nominations due May 1

The Silver Beaver Award was introduced in 1931 and is a Council-level distinguished service award of the Boy Scouts of America. Recipients of this award are registered Scouters who have made an impact on the lives of youth through service given to the Council. This is the highest recognition a Council can bestow on an adult volunteer leader. To nominate a person for the Silver Beaver Award, the deadline for submission is May 1, 2014. More:

Purchasing Advancement Awards

If you should have any questions please contact the Scout office and ask for assistance with internet advancement.

doctor.jpgEnterprise Risk Management

In preparation for the summer camp season, we are rolling out a new, simplified annual health and medical record effective March 1, 2014. Thanks to you, your volunteers, your parents, and your unit leaders for providing constructive feedback on how we could make the record easier to use while still collecting the information needed to make sure our Scouts are ready for their experience. To learn more, we invite you to participate in a webinar on April 4 at 1 p.m., Central. On April 4, log on

In order to provide better care for its members and to assist them in better understanding their own physical capabilities, the Boy Scouts of America recommends that everyone who participates in a Scouting event have an annual medical evaluation by a certified and licensed health-care provider-a physician (MD or DO), nurse practitioner, or physician assistant. Providing your medical information on this four-part form will help ensure you meet the minimum standards for participation in various activities. Note that unit leaders must always protect the privacy of unit participants by protecting their medical information  more
