Josephinum Celebrates Cong 2013-14!

On October 30, we celebrated Cong, an annual day of festivities! Students were thrilled to find that a seemingly normal Wednesday morning assembly was actually the beginning of the 2013-14 Cong!

Each year, the Josephinum faculty and staff surprise the students with a day of fun and enriching activities. This year Cong was Halloween-themed! Teachers dressed up in costumes and students painted pumpkins, built scarecrows, competed in a team-building web activity, participated in Halloween trivia, and made spooky dance videos!

"Cong gives our students the opportunity to

work together in teams, problem solve as a group,

and enjoy one another in community."

Josephinum Choir Performs at Special Olympics

The Josephinum Choir and JAMS session vocalists did a beautiful job performing the National Anthem to kickoff the official State Floor Hockey Tournament for Special Olympics Illinois. Six students sang at the event, which was held at Northeastern Illinois University on November 9. Josephinum Choir Director Marisa Buchheit received this note from Kathy McLaughlin, the Director of Development for Special Olympics Illinois: "On behalf of Special Olympics Illinois, thank you for your wonderful support of the State Floor Hockey Tournament. We are grateful for the wonderful performance shared by the Josephinum Academy Choir! I hope the students enjoyed their day with Special Olympics Illinois!"

Students Pay Their Respects on Day of the Dead

Every year, Josephinum students take part in a Day of the Dead celebration. Day of the Dead is a holiday celebrated throughout Mexico and around the world in other cultures. The holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died. Josephinum Spanish students contributed to the cafeteria bulletin boards to commemorate and teach on the tradition of the Day of the Dead. Students created their own Day of the Dead decorations and posted photos, mementos, and hand-written letters as tributes to loved ones who have passed.
