LEGISLATIVE FRONT:
The Power of CAHU's VoterVoice

To put it simply, CAHU's Calls to Action work.  These grass root communication campaigns to inform and advise the California Legislature are one of our most effective tools for sharing our insights and concerns about pending bills.

We've invested in a strong platform that makes it remarkably easy for you to be heard as a member of our collective coalition of voices in favor of California health care
consumers and free market financing solutions for all Californians.

One current success story is AB 1163 (Rodriguez), which just passed both CA houses on unanimous votes. AB 1163 requires health insurers and health maintenance organizations to provide their appointed agents with 45 days advance notice of any material change in their agent agreement.  Our legislative advocates, Mike Belote, Esq. and Juli Broyles, have worked tirelessly on this CAHU sponsored bill - THE FIRST OF ITS KIND IN THE NATION - and we're elated (and proud) that their leadership, along with CAHU members' dedicated efforts, have helped move it just one step from the Governor's signature!

Now, we urge you to join us in OPPOSING AB 248 (Hernandez). AB 248 is two short steps away from the Governor's desk and we need you to contact the Governor and urge him to not take options away for large employers.

COVERED CA INVITE:
Culture of Coverage Champs

From the Desk of Peter V. Lee, Executive Director, Covered California:

"We are kicking off a new Culture of Coverage Champions Program, designed to expand and amplify the many leadership voices committed to promoting the culture of coverage in California. As you know, until a few years ago, millions of Californians struggled every day with a "culture of coping" - living without health insurance, living an illness away from bankruptcy and living without the benefit of preventative care services. Truly moving to a culture of coverage will take years of education and community engagement.

As a respected and passionate leader in your community, we would like to invite you to be an active Culture of Coverage Champion partner with Covered California. Your voice is unique, and we want to work together to be as effective as possible. As a Culture of Coverage Champion, you have an opportunity to participate in an upcoming skill-building "Converge 4 Coverage" event that will take place in Los Angeles on Monday, Oct. 12, 2015, for southern California Champions and in Sacramento on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2015 for northern California Champions. The agenda for both events can be found below.

The event will include skill-building opportunities, networking with other Culture of Coverage Champions, and a helpful tool kit to effectively engage Californians in the culture of coverage. We will bring media and communication leaders to offer their expertise in effectively interacting with traditional and social media and how to maximize opportunities with both. You will also hear about what is new for the upcoming open-enrollment period and how the Affordable Care Act is working in California.

Your contributions - combined with those of other Culture of Coverage Champions throughout California - can be significant and especially critical to California's success promoting the culture of coverage in the months and years to come.

Please send us your RSVP no later than Friday, Sept. 18, 2015 at 5 p.m. and let us know which training event you can attend.

For more information, contact us at
coveragechampions@covered.ca.gov or call Kelsey Lindelof at (916) 228-8358. We look forward to hearing from you."
