Whether I'm painting or not, I have this overwhelming interest in humanity. Even if I'm not working, I'm still analyzing people. -- Alice Neel

President's Message
Sales continue to be strong for the Arizona Sonoran Desert Museum Visions of the Southwest show, and with hundreds of museum visitors viewing the show each week we anticipate more sales by the conclusion of the show. We have already realized over $18,000 in sales, and the museum is very happy, especially with the high quality of artwork exhibited. We are also happy to report at least two AWA artists accepted offers for representation from the K. Newby gallery, the host of our 2012 Competition exhibit. Based on the compliments by participants and collectors alike the show was a critical success. Tubac's economy seems to be suffering this year as we understand many gallery owners expressed it has been one of the slowest season starts ever, so our show sales were modest. The weekend events afforded many opportunities for many artists to network with their peers and representatives from three national publications. I am deeply grateful for each and every member who submitted the outstanding artwork that made our exhibits such huge successes. Also, I would like to extend my appreciation for all of the Master Class instructors, board members, participants, sponsors, assistants, photographer, galleries, patrons, and each and every person that helped make this happen. We could not have done it without the outstanding energy and assistance from all of you.

Scholarship Program
A letter of appreciation from, Yvonne Colclasure, a 2012 Master Class Participant.
"I have never been in a group of women who were so supportive of one another and so accepting of new members. I felt like I had been a part of the group forever. Joining AWA has been the best thing I have done. The paint out and Master Class events were both very well organized and I had a blast! I am extremely proud to be a member of AWA and looking forward to more events and opportunities to get to know you all better. Thank you so much for the individual attention I received from you and the time and energy each of you put into pulling off such a wonderful weekend. I hope I will be able to be a contributing member and not just a recipient of all the good stuff. The demonstrations were all fantastic and I gained a tremendous amount of insight and knowledge from the privilege to attend them. I am truly excited to get back to my easel and begin my journey forward using what I gained from all the ladies who gave so generously of their time, energy, knowledge and experience. I will remember this weekend every time I pick up a brush and treasure this experience forever."

Signature Member Spotlight - Tucker Bailey
| Rocket Man Bronze 19x25x9.5 |
Tucker Bailey's sculptures and paintings are strongly influenced by her life experiences. She was born in northern Minnesota and spent her early years along the ruggedly beautiful shores of Lake Superior. It was there she developed a deep love of nature and animals. She also became an equestrian at an early age and horses continue to be a large part of her life. "From the first time I saw a bronze sculpture as a young girl, at the Minneapolis Institute of Art, I've been totally captivated by the reality of three dimensional sculptures. It became my goal to one day create bronze sculptures. I try to bring more to my sculptures than just surface anatomy. I think of the work I do as a portrait of each animal. I try to bring out its personality-making the space at once internal and external."
