PowerPoint Stress Relief from eSlide
Issue 65
eSlide's Quick Tip of the Month
Auto Changing Text
One of our readers was suffering from PowerPoint's automatically changing font sizes and text positions. This was interfering with the consistency between slides and even between two text boxes on the same slide.
Some of what was causing her pain can be easily fixed by modifying the placeholders in the Master slide and layouts.
The text placeholders are currently setup to "Shrink text on overflow." So, when you type more than what can fit at the designated size, it will automatically shrink the text to a size that will fit within that box. That setting can be changed to "Do not Autofit."
Also, on the Master slide, the Title placeholder has the "Vertical alignment" set for Middle. So, when the title wraps to a second line, it will not appear to align with those that have a single line of text. That can be resolved by selecting Top or Bottom from the dropdown menu. The Title placeholder is also set to "Shrink text on overflow." So, title text sizes may vary depending upon content volume.
The best way to address the fluctuating sizes may be to find a happy medium for the typical amount of content you use on the slides. Then make that the largest size used in your Master slide and layout placeholders, as well as leveraging the techniques described above.
