eSlide's Quick Tip of the Month
The Power of Customizing SMARTART
With a little effort, you can customize an existing SMARTART shape into something better suited to your needs. For example: a commonly used diagram like the "RADIAL CYCLE" is useful when you have a central object (like a logo) surrounded by several related objects (text tables, icons, additional logos, etc.). The SMARTART default contains four elements, but often, six or eight elements are required.
To achieve this:
1. Click on the INSERT tab choose SMARTART
2. Then choose the CYCLE category (see example image above)
3. Select RADIAL CYCLE and press OK
4. The SMART TOOLS - DESIGN pane will appear, to add additional elements to the RADIAL CYCLE, press the ADD SHAPE button (in the upper left of the CREATE GRAPHIC category)
5. To reduce the number of elements, select and press the delete key

6. To further customize this shape, select the CONVERT TO SHAPES (on the far right of the RESET PANE), then select the shape and press CTRL-SHIFT-G to UNGROUP
Delete elements you don't want to use (semi-circle segments, central circle). You can now insert a company logo or icon into the center of the group, and text elements into the radial circles. Or you can simply use the circles as a guide to help position your own custom icons or logos, deleting the original shapes when done.
