Hello everyone,
There is a lot going on in Newburgh during the month of August. On the 10th, you won't want to miss the Old Dam Blues and BBQ Fest. August 11th is the Pillars of Honor and August 23, 24 and 25 is the Fiddler Fest.
Then on August 28th, Historic Newburgh, Inc. will host an IN Main Street Community Exchange. People involved with Indiana Main Street programs around the state will be visiting Newburgh to come to this workshop. You too are invited. It is a practical hands on workshop about using facebook to market your business and suggestions on how to enhance your website. Bring your computer and let's get some things done. BOOK SIGNING BY LOCAL AUTHOR
Kathy Ewing, Newburgh resident, will be signing copies of her new book "COMEDY TRAGEDY AND OTHER ERRORS, the story of the Castle High School theatre department from 1964-1985" at the Newburgh Schnuck's location on August 3, 2013 from 10:00am - noon. She will also be at the Newburgh Senior Center October 20th for "Afternoon with and Author". (Books will also be available for purchase both of these days.)
Kathy was the choral director and drama teacher at Castle for many years and was instrumental in developing the theatrical department while she was a teacher. From a small stage in the gymnasium to the current auditorium, Kathy's tales will fill your heart with laughter, tears and poignant stories from her years at Castle High School.
The price for the book is $15 for one, or if you buy two or more, the price is $12 each and may be purchased at Historic Newburgh Inc. or by contacting Ms. Ewing directly.

Day of Honor & Unveiling of the Original Scale-Model of the National World War II Memorial

At this special reception, the original scale- model of the World War II Memorial in Washington D.C. will be unveiled, during a program honoring Veterans and their families. The exhibit and event is brought to you by Pillars of Honor, Inc. an Illinois non-profit organization dedicated to honoring WWII Veterans unable to travel to Washington DC to see their memorial in person. Pillars of Honor brings the memorial to them. You may learn more at www.pillarsofhonor.org.
This is the original scale model that was used by Senator Bob Dole to present the memorial design to Congress. It was designed by Friedrich St. Florian from Providence, RI. Pillars of Honor, has this model on loan for a limited time before it has to be returned and placed in the Smithsonian. Don't miss this once in a lifetime event.
Our WWII Veterans now number less than three million. The average age of these Veterans is 90 years old and we are losing these valuable souls at an alarming rate of 1,200 each and every day. These Veterans are missing out on the opportunity to get first-hand knowledge about their memorial and more importantly receive recognition for their contribution to our nation. This Day of Honor experience gives Veterans the opportunity to learn about their memorial, talk with other Veterans and reflect upon the sacrifices they and others made during one of the most trying times in the history of the United States.
Kindly register your WWII Veteran's attendance at your earliest convenience, no later than August 4, 2013 to be included in the souvenir program book. Please send WWII veteran's name ASAP and note if veteran is deceased. Need name and branch of service.

 Fiddler Fest Time
The 33ndAnnual Fiddler Fest is sponsored by Friends of Newburgh and presented by People's Trust and Savings Bank. As always, the fest will feature fiddler dinners as well as filet dinners and sandwiches. All dinners will be $10.00 for adults. Senior's and children's dinners will also be available.
Friday night the catfish fiddler fryers will fire up around 5:00pm, the beer garden will open for business, the vendors will set up their tents and the music will begin. Sweetwater Band will play from 5 pm - 9 pm.
Saturday the festivities start at noon with Byron Rohrig playing until 4 pm and Against Medical Advice playing 5-9 pm. Enjoy the beer garden and vendor booths all day and evening.
Sunday, Byron Rohrig will start his music at noon and play until 4:00 pm. They will serve catfish until 5:00 or until there is no more catfish, so get there early.
Vendors selling kettle corn, handmade jewelry, wickless candles, and wooden crafts will be there all weekend. There will be food vendors with nachos, hamburger, cheeseburgers, and Kiwanis ice cream.

Winery Tour - First Saturday in November. It is great fun. We will hop aboard a coach bus that will take us to Mystique Winery in Lynnville, Indian Creek Winery in Georgetown, and we will make a return visit to Turtle Run near Corydon. We will head to the Log Inn for dinner. It only costs $60 for non-HNI members and $56.00 for HNI members. That includes the bus, a lunch and all tastings. Dinner is on your own at the Log Inn. Get your reservation in now!

Historic Newburgh Community Theatre
The Unexplained by Alfred Hitchcock
The setting is in a Victorian Pub at the turn of the century in London. There will be a group psychic reading providing clues to the identity of the murderer, the motive and the weapon followed by a 20 minute intermission when the audience members will cast their secret ballots. After the intermission a se'ance will be held when the murderer, motive and weapon will be revealed.
We have our cast and rehearsal have begun.

Beyond the Red Door is authored by two of the Rivertown Art Gallery artists/writers, Dr. Rick Yeager and Mary Ellen Ziliak. We have the book available for sale in our Historic Newburgh Gift Shop. I have read it. The book speaks to all of us and is a great read!

No Greater Glory is a book written by Warrick County resident, Cindy Nord. It is all about the Civil War and how love can still survive the struggles of war. This book is going to be available in our shop soon.

The statute that recognized the creation of Warrick County was enacted by the Indiana Territorial Legislation and became effective on April 1, 1813, a full decade after John Sprinkle became the first white settler in the area when he landed at Newburgh in 1803. WarrickCounty was carved out of the original Knox County, and was named after a close friend of General William H. Harrison, Capt. Jacob Warrick, who died during the Battle of Tippecanoe in 1811.
In commemoration of the Bicentennial of Warrick County, a group of representatives from the Newburgh Museum Foundation, Historic Newburgh, Inc., the Coal Mine Museum and the Warrick County Museum have formed a Steering Committee and plans are now underway for festivities throughout 2013 to celebrate the founding of Warrick County.

Wednesday and Sunday 11-3 with free admission
Come join us and also see the opening of the "Early Textile" exhibit. This exhibit will feature needle art ranging from quilts and coverlets to handmade lace and crocheted tablecloths. There are embroidered and crocheted pieces along with examples of needlepoint and hooked and braided rugs. Beautifully detailed christening gowns, samplers and hair art will also be on display.
 A collection of vintage sewing accessories rounds out the exhibit. The museum is conveniently located in Preservation Hall at the corner of State and Main Streets. Our hours are Wednesday and Saturday 11-3:00 or by calling 812-853-5045 for an appointment.
