Happy Birthday Warrick County

Hello everyone,
Nothing like an old fashion Independence Day event to remind you 1. That it is great to be an American 2. That we live in a wonderful community 3. That family and friends are the glue that holds us all together.
Thank you to everyone that helped make this one so special!
We are beginning the second half of our year with a call-out for volunteers.
*Historic Newburgh Farmers Market - someone to sit at our tent during the market - sell t-shirts
*Historic Newburgh Community Theatre - actors/actresses and stage hands
*Historic Newburgh Visitor Center, Art Gallery and Shop - receptionist, shopkeeper
*Ghost Walks - guides and actors/actresses to be ghosts
*Newburgh Celebrates Christms - people willing to dress in period costume
The Old Dam Blues & Bar-B-Q Festival will be held Saturday, August 10th at the Old Lock and Dam Park. There will be 6 blues acts, Bar-B-Q cooked on site, and a bierstube sponsored by Cricket's Bar & Grill. More to come on this event in our next issue on July 19th.
By the way, the donation of a vacuum cleaner would be nice. Ours may be classified as historic and has a wheel falling off. If you have an extra, we would be ever so grateful for the donation.

Casting Call for
Historic Newburgh Community Theatre
The Unexplained by Alfred Hitchcock
The setting is in a Victorian Pub at the turn of the century in London. There will be a group psychic reading providing clues to the identity of the murderer, the motive and the weapon followed by a 20 minute intermission when the audience members will cast their secret ballots. After the intermission a se'ance will be held when the murderer, motive and weapon will be revealed.
Characters:
Eddie - An aristocratic, cunning Victorian gentleman
Arthur - An extremely intelligent man who is a renowned British mystery writer and a brilliant detective who Scotland Yard greatly respects
Monty - A boy's schoolmaster, who loves to play cricket; he is argumentative and has a history of family mental illness.
Eleanor - An older, frustrated midwife who is self-righteous.
Dr. Lees - He is a spiritualist and psychic who claims to know the future
Mary, Lizzie, and Catherine - Unfortunate creatures of an unjust and decayed Victorian social system that has forced all three women to become known as "Ladies of the Evening".

A special opportunity came our way in spring of 2011. Time Warner Cable is producing Historic Newburgh TV23 Magazine. This is an interview show that celebrates all the different pieces and parts that make Newburgh a great place to live and visit. I always end the show with "This is one of the reasons we love Newburgh and we think you will too."

The statute that recognized the creation of WarrickCounty was enacted by the Indiana Territorial Legislation and became effective on April 1, 1813, a full decade after John Sprinkle became the first white settler in the area when he landed at Newburgh in 1803. WarrickCounty was carved out of the original Knox County, and was named after a close friend of General William H. Harrison, Capt. Jacob Warrick, who died during the Battle of Tippecanoe in 1811.
In commemoration of the Bicentennial of Warrick County, a group of representatives from the Newburgh Museum Foundation, Historic Newburgh, Inc., the Coal Mine Museum and the Warrick County Museum have formed a Steering Committee and plans are now underway for festivities throughout 2013 to celebrate the founding of Warrick County.

On behalf of the Pillars of Honor non-profit organization and the Newburgh American Legion Kapperman Post #44, we proudly invite you to join us at a:
Day of Honor & Unveiling of the Original Scale-Model of the National World War II Memorial
Sunday, August 11, 2013 at 2:00 pm
Newburgh Elementary School
360 State Street
Newburgh, Indiana
At this special reception, the original scale- model of the World War II Memorial in Washington D.C. will be unveiled, during a program honoring Veterans and their families. The exhibit and event is brought to you by Pillars of Honor, Inc. a Illinois non-profit organization dedicated to honoring WWII Veterans unable to travel to Washington DC to see their memorial in person. Pillars of Honor brings the memorial to them. You may learn more at www.pillarsofhonor.org.
This is the original scale model that was used by Senator Bob Dole to present the memorial design to Congress. It was designed by Friedrich St. Florian from Providence, RI. Pillars of Honor, has this model on loan for a limited time before it has to be returned and placed in the Smithsonian. Don't miss this once in a lifetime event.
Our WWII Veterans now number less than three million. The average age of these Veterans is 90 years old and we are losing these valuable souls at an alarming rate of 1,200 each and every day. These Veterans are missing out on the opportunity to get first-hand knowledge about their memorial and more importantly receive recognition for their contribution to our nation. This Day of Honor experience gives Veterans the opportunity to learn about their memorial, talk with other Veterans and reflect upon the sacrifices they and others made during one of the most trying times in the history of the United States.
Kindly register your WWII Veteran's attendance at your earliest convenience, no later than August 4, 2013 to be included in the souvenir program book. Please send WWII veteran's name ASAP and note if veteran is deceased. Need name and branch of service.
To: Pillars of Honor, Inc, 770 Lee Street, Suite 103, Des Plaines, IL 60016 or call 847-954-0520 for more information. Or Email: [email protected]
