Christmas is coming

Executie Director photo

Hello everyone,

Tragedy struck Newburgh last week.  There are no words to express the way we all feel for the businesses destroyed by fire.  To all those affected, we are here for you.

Newburgh Celebrates Christmas is the first weekend in December.  That is Saturday, December 1, 10:00 am - 6:00 pm and Sunday, December 2 noon-5 pm, and includes Santa Express Outside House Tours, an opportunity to visit the new Newburgh Museum and Elf on the Shelf Scavenger Hunt.

What will make this weekend extra special is that we are treating the streets of Newburgh as if they are a theater.  There will be people dressed in 1880s clothing going about their business as if they are from that period.  We will have someone roasting chestnuts on an open fire.  We will have carolers and musicians throughout the weekend.  We will have a newspaper boy calling out Extra, Extra, Read all about it......which will be the program for the weekend.

Saturday and Sunday we have arranged for some special outside house tours aboard the Santa Express which is our Newburgh Trolley.   The tours will cost $7.00 per person and are sold the day of the event. .  Santa and Mrs. Claus will be at the Newburgh Town Hall both afternoons for photos.

This year, the Newburgh Area Business Association (NABA) is sponsoring a free shopping bus that will shuttle shoppers from one end of Newburgh to the other end of Newburgh.  Come dine and shop while experiencing a step back into time.

After enjoying your shopping on Sunday, stop in at the Town Hall at 5:30 pm for the Castle Knight Sensations and the lighting of the Town Christmas Trees.

All weekend you will be able to participate in the Find the Elf Scavenger Hunt and enjoy street performers and musicians as they recreate Newburgh from the 1800's.

Executive Director

Check out our new location at 517 W. Main Street.  We are at the point across from the Pet Food Center, Heart of Newburgh, Crickets, Patton Music and the Haircare Center.  We are diagonal from Titzer Funeral Home.

 Blessing of the Wreaths

Hanging of the Wreaths 2012

On November 10, many of the Newburgh merchants celebrated the "Blessing of the Wreaths." Docia Peevler, owner of the Village Knitter, read a beautiful prayer to bless each of the specially created wreaths. The wreaths are displayed in each of the businesses and from now until December 2nd and customers may enter their names for a drawing.

At 5:00 on Sunday, December 2, the names of the winners will be announced. Before the official Town of Newburgh tree lighting, the wreaths will be presented to the winners. It is a wonderful tradition!

NEWBURGH CELEBRATES CHRISTMAS THROUGH THE YEARS

The Newburgh Museum will be opening their new exhibit, Newburgh Celebrates Christmas Through the Years, on Saturday, November 24 and it will continue through the end of the year.  Travel back to the late 1800s to see how citizens would have decorated their parlors, what toys were popular and to view vintage Santas, snowmen, ornaments and trees.

The museum, which tells the history of Newburgh from 1803 until today, is open every Wednesday and Saturday, 11-3:00 or by calling for an appointment at 853-5045.  During the month of December we will also be open on Sunday noon-3:00.  It is conveniently located in downtown Newburgh in Preservation Hall at the corner of State and Main Streets.
