**URGENT NOTICE FOR ALL CUSTOMERS WITH WINDOWS XP, OFFICE 2003 AND/OR EXCHANGE 2003
MICROSOFT SUPPORT ENDS APRIL 8, 2014
What does end of support mean?

What this means to customers with these products in their environments is that, while these products will continue to run as they have been, Microsoft will no longer release critical updates and patches leaving them vulnerable to malicious software and compliance issues. In addition to security updates, Microsoft will no longer write code that allows these products to work with newer versions of other applications you have in your environment (Adobe, QuickBooks, etc.).

Next Steps
In the coming days, you will be contacted by a CCC Technologies' Representative regarding these products if we have identified them in your environment to discuss upgrade/replacement options. If you have not been contacted, or you are unsure if you have these products in your environment, please call our Customer Care Center at 847.427.2333 for more information.
  • Depending on the type and quantity of end of support products you have in your environment we will be able to complete some additional investigation and testing to see if you simply require a software upgrade or if an entire hardware/software refresh is required.
  • If you would like to test Windows XP machines for upgrade readiness you can do so by visiting http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/what-is-the-system-update-readiness-tool (Please note that you must be on the Windows XP machine to run the assessment tool.

Potential Risks of Staying on Windows XP

Security:

Without critical Windows XP security updates, your PC may become vulnerable to harmful viruses, spyware, and other malicious software which can steal or damage your business data and information. Anti-virus software will also not be able to fully protect you once Windows XP itself is unsupported.

Compliance:

Businesses that are governed by regulatory obligations such as HIPAA may find that they are no longer able to satisfy compliance requirements. More information on HHS's view on the security requirements for information systems that contain electronic protected health information (e-PHI) can be found here (HHS HIPAA FAQ - Security Rule).

Lack of Independent Software Vendor (ISV) Support:

Many software vendors will no longer support their products running on Windows XP as they are unable to receive Windows XP updates. For example, the new Office takes advantage of the modern Windows and will not run on Windows XP.

Hardware Manufacturer support:

Most PC hardware manufacturers will stop supporting Windows XP on existing and new hardware. This will also mean that drivers required to run Windows XP on new hardware may not be available.
