James Goggin, ConvergeSecure® Customer Support Unit Engineer

James Goggin

A common problem in the computer world today is a slow computer. Computers become slow due to software installed, garbage on the hard drive, and its age. Fortunately, there are ways to keep your computer in pristine condition.

Here are some ways to tell if your computer has become slow:

  • You cannot access programs as fast as you would like to
  • After turning on the computer, it takes more than a few minutes until you are able to do anything

In the past few years, the changing landscape of communications technology has allowed consumers to play an even larger role in the way companies make decisions. Consumers have 24/7 access to the Internet, social media, mobile technology, and video chat, which opens the door to constant customer feedback and community interaction. We are now living in what Forrester Research calls "The Age of the Customer".

Clearly, customer experience expectations have grown dramatically. In our recent consumer preference study, we learned that 36% of consumers will consider defecting after only 2-3 customer service attempts. Moreover, 90% of consumers say they are likely to tell their network about a poor customer service experience that caused them to move their business. This impact of sharing is heightened because of the speed and convenience of communication in today's world. Companies are now on their toes, re-prioritizing their focus on the customer experience.

ESI Celebrates 25 Years
Practicing "Success With Significance" For 25 Years

ESI_Logo Volunteerism and philanthropy are the cornerstones of what makes ESI a constant trendsetter in the telecommunications space. ESI operates like clockwork because employees and resellers learn to work together and think creatively to improve the community and raise money for those in need. These skills are then transferred to the workplace.

The goal of volunteerism is to find a solution to a community's most pressing needs. Little did I know that the skills I gained when starting ESI in my garage would suit me well in my philanthropic endeavor. I founded ESI because I wanted to make a difference in helping small businesses grow. I was able to develop a product in response to small business needs from the ground up-in the first instance-a small PBX and voice mail system. I embarked on a grassroots effort to sell this innovative phone system, using my product marketing, development and sales experience to successfully and gradually grow ESI. After this initial taste of success, I built a small team that shared the same passion for building telephone systems. We worked late into the night in a never ending quest to build new products and become an emerging force in the telecommunications industry. Our unadulterated passion for developing telephone solutions for our market helped us overcome challenges that we encountered.

Bring Your Own Device?
Our Survey Says, "No"
Stefanie Hoffman, Fortinet
Unified Threat Management

Some interesting results from our recent FortiBlog survey. When asked how your organizations are dealing with client software on personal devices, out of 286 respondents, more than half of you stated that such devices are not permitted on your network. About a third said you're using Mobile Device Management clients and the rest were using either VPN clients of virtual desktop technology. I'm struck by the large number that do not permit personal devices on your network. And, I wouldn't be surprised if this number decreases rapidly in the coming months.

Losing My Religion: Virtualization Backup Dogma, Faith, and Fact

Mark Campbell, Unitrends | Modern Backup 2 Blog

Backup & Recovery

"Losing my religion" is an expression from the southern region of the United States that means being perplexed to the point of being unable to think what to do. Despite the tremendous advantages that virtualization brings to IT professionals, many find themselves at their wits' end with respect to protecting ever more prevalent virtualized environments.  The cacophony of competing vendor claims as well as the claims of their paid consultants only increases the confusion and attendant frustration in those simply seeking to an optimal solution for protecting their unique IT infrastructure.

There is a war of words going on right now between data protection vendors who offer data protection within the virtual machine versus those who offer data protection at the hypervisor level.  These vendors illustrate specific use cases that offer advantages to their methods while ignoring those uses cases in which they have a disadvantage.

Managed ServicesAre you considering hiring an IT consultant for that challenging project or new piece of equipment? These tips will help you know the questions to ask regarding legal issues and how to avoid common mistakes that companies make when bringing in outside help.

Hiring an IT consultant for a mission-critical task or project that drives core business sometimes is more cost- and time-efficient than hiring a full-time employee that you can train, work with and guide. However, it is a tricky-and potentially risky--endeavor, but there are steps you can take to ensure the job gets done while minimizing the legal risks to your company.
