NEW! Check out this video message from Rabbi Rose or see the complete details of this meeting that were mailed to all members.

In addition to elections to the Board of Trustees and other annual business, we would like to discuss and engage with you on the topic of our finances.

This past year, Har HaShem has significantly reduced its deficit by completing a refinancing with our bank and implementing dramatic budget cuts. We are on the path to financial stability but completing the job will take the commitment of our entire membership. The shape and form of where we end up will depend on choices we make and what we are committed to over the next several months.  Whether we will be able to retain key clergy and staff and all our real estate assets will depend on our ability to step up as a congregation. This pivotal annual meeting is the most important one in years and your participation is critical.

Our attendance goal for this meeting is to have every member of the congregation attend so that we can convey our perspective and get your feedback on this important topic.

We would like to know if you are coming to the meeting, or unable to come.

Please RESPOND HERE.

If you are unable to attend, please return your absentee ballot.

 Rabbi Rose to Facilitate a
 Discussion:
The Ten  Commandments and the  Second Amendment

 Thursday, May 23rd

 7:30 PM

Walnut Brewery, 1123  Walnut Street in Boulder

We'll take aim at one of the most divisive issues in our country and talk about the Jewish values that should inform our opinions regarding gun control. Does the Jewish abhorrence of violence lead us to condemn and restrict guns? Or does the Jewish belief in self-preservation and our history of persecution lead us to oppose government interference in gun ownership? Come have a bite and a beverage, be part of the conversation, and learn a bit about what the Jewish tradition says about how to think through this issue. No cost. No RSVP.

Volunteers Needed to Help  Har HaShem Feed the  Homeless on Memorial Day

Eben G. Fine Park at west  end of Arapahoe Avenue

Memorial Day, Monday, May  27th from 11:30-1:30

Once again, Har HaShem will provide picnic lunches to homeless members of the Boulder community the three summer holidays starting with Memorial Day.

We will provide a kosher-style meal of Hebrew National hot dogs, assorted salads, condiments, and desserts. You can help by:

1.  Working at the picnic (appropriate for adults and kids of all ages).

2.  Providing home-made PAREVE baked goods (eggs are fine, but no butter, milk or other dairy ingredients). ONLY finger foods please (cookies, bars, brownies, etc).

This is a mitzvah for our guests, but also for the volunteers -- you will feel great, and meet some nice folks. We'll set up, serve, eat, shmooze, and clean up. All ages and abilities welcome. To volunteer, contact Sara-Jane Cohen, [email protected] or (303) 444-0962.

To donate funds to support our year round work to assist the less fortunate, send a donation to Har HaShem and indicate it is for Tikkun Olam (repair the world) projects.

There will also be information provided regarding the advantages of funeral pre-planning, both financial and for peace of mind.

Plan ahead and recognize the mitzvah of providing peace of mind. Incorporate a loved one's final wishes and eliminate the need to make difficult decisions at a time of deep personal loss.

***All attendees will receive $500 incentive coupons off of any pre-arranged funeral plan from Greenwood & Myers Mortuary!

***Author Amy Levine's new book, "The Funeral is Just the Beginning: Everything You Need to Do When a Loved One Dies
will be raffled off as a door prize to one lucky winner or available for purchase.

Mike Greenwood is owner of Greenwood & Myers Mortuary and has worked in the funeral business in Boulder for 27 years. During this time, he worked as General Manager at Crist Mortuary for over 10 years and was instrumental in arranging the Jewish section at Mountain View Cemetery. Mike is highly regarded by Boulder's Rabbis for the compassionate service he provides.

Avraham (Gary) Kornfeld has worked extensively in and around the Jewish community for over 18 years. He is currently a leader in the Aish Kodesh community who also volunteers with Boulder's Chevra Kadisha (Jewish burial society). He brings his compassion and understanding around the Jewish death and grief process to help guide and assist those in the Jewish community at this critical time of need.

Neighborhood Captains are Needed Now for Summer Launch of

 "Har HaShem in the Neighborhood"
Captain Training Set for Thursday, June 13th, 6:30 PM

Every household in the congregation (with the exception of those living out of state or at a distance) will be assigned to a neighborhood group this summer as a way to connect, celebrate, have fun, and support one another. This initiative represents the old idea that Jewish life is lived in our homes and communities and also the new idea that a synagogue should cultivate and inspire Jewish life and community well beyond its walls.

We anticipate there being 10-15 groups to start, headed by a Captain or Co-Captain team. Will you consider being a Captain or Co-Captain? We've recruited 15 so far, but we need more!

The job description includes an estimated 1-2 hours per week. Captains will serve as a liaison between the synagogue and the neighborhood; determine the best way to communicate within your neighborhood using email, phone, mail, or web resources; and r
ecruit volunteers within your neighborhood to assist with making phone calls, home visits, or coordinating 2-4 gatherings a year around Jewish holidays.

Please respond by June 1st with your interest to Ellen Kowitt at [email protected] or (303) 499-7077 ext. 19 or to Rabbi Rose at [email protected]. If you cannot attend the first training, we have an alternative for you to get started.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO WEED ONCE A WEEK DURING THE SUMMER AT HHS GARDEN

We need a few volunteers who can weed once a week. Contact Josh Shoenfeld for more information at [email protected].

BE A FRIDAY EVENING SHABBAT SERVICE GREETER AT THE SYNAGOGUE!
52 Friday evenings a year, Har HaShem holds an evening Shabbat service starting at 6 PM (except on the first Friday of each month when it begins at 7 PM). Greeters are needed to welcome guests at the front door and at the sanctuary door. A smile, friendly attitude, and willingness to show up 15 minutes early are all it takes to help in this significant way as we welcome members and guests. Won't you commit to at least one Friday a year? Do it for a loved one's yahrzeit, do it to commemorate a birthday or special occasion, do it to support a friend's b'nai mitzvah. Just do it!
We're using VolunteerSpot to organize the Shabbat Greeter Program. Click this link to go to our invitation page on VolunteerSpot at
