At this service, Rabbi Rose and Cantorial Soloist Holli Berman will lead an engaging and participatory musical service. It is a Kabbalat Shabbat service, a term that means "Welcoming Shabbat" and refers to the beautiful Psalms and mystical poems compiled over centuries of Jewish history and inserted into the prayerbook on Friday evening to prepare us for Shabbat. The evocative, easy-to-learn melodies and prayers will help you shift your heart and soul from "Monday through Friday" mode to "Shabbat" mode and leave you rejuvenated and buzzing with positive Shabbat energy.

Bagels, coffee, and inspiration - what's not to like?
You don't need to be familiar with the Torah, you don't need to know Hebrew, you don't need to be Jewish, and you don't need to be the kind of person "who attends this kind of thing"! What you do need is spiritual curiosity, a desire to be inspired and guided by the Jewish tradition, and a sense that you deserve to enjoy a relaxing environment with other people on Saturday morning.
Join us as we take a look at this week's Torah portion as well as the comments of the spiritual giants of the past on the topic of freedom of choice and a meaningful life. Rabbi Rose leads a group discussion of the weekly Torah portion, bringing together ancient and modern insights into the spiritual meaning of the texts. Bagels, cream cheese and coffee at 8:45 AM. Torah Study discussion begins at 9 followed at 10 by a Shabbat morning service of singing, prayer, quiet meditation and Shabbat renewal.

Sunday, November 4th
11 AM - 11:30 AM

Rain or Shine
Rabbi Rose and Cantorial Soloist Holli Berman will lead a short dedication ritual outside on our new mogen david paver design. We have moved from the artist's depiction to the real thing and it's time to celebrate! We have a lot of special activities at Har HaShem on that day, and we will start promptly at 11 AM.
This is more than a project of concrete and granite. Take some time on November 4th, or on other visits to Har HaShem, to read the many inscriptions on the project. They speak to our hopes, to our memories, and to our aspirations. They speak to the holy community we build every day.

Bringing Shabbat Home Class with Rabbi Bronstein |
Bringing Home Shabbat Class: A Three Week Practicum on how to Welcome Shabbat into your Home with Rabbi Bronstein
Starts Tuesday, November 6th
Continues Nov. 13th and Nov. 27th
6-8 PM
North Building
We are taught that Shabbat is intrinsically holy and, at the same time, we are commanded to sanctify Shabbat! What can that mean? Perhaps, that while Shabbat is in and of itself a sacred time, if we don't enter into the holiness ourselves, Shabbat is not holy for us. We miss the train, so to speak. We don't enjoy the respite and radical freedom that is the gift the Sabbath brings us.
If you want to welcome Shabbat into your home, come to this three week experiential class on the mitzvot and practices of Shabbat. We will learn blessings and songs, their meanings and their melodies. Parents with children at home will have a chance to write their own blessings for their children and adults will have the opportunity to explore new customs and old. Only you can welcome in the Sabbath and make it holy. Please learn to do so with us. This is a personal invitation. You will receive a binder of essays, recipes; prayers and blessings and discussion topics for the Shabbat table. There are no prerequisites for this class. It is open to adults of all ages. Each class session will include a dairy vegetarian pot-luck dinner to help us re-create a Shabbat table.
There is a $36 material fee for the class. Click here to register online.
