Among them is David Koppenhaver, a renowned literacy educator with more than 30 years of experience helping children and adults learn to read and write. He specializes in students with significant learning disabilities with autism spectrum disorders, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, Rett syndrome, and a variety of other disabilities.

Families of Children 3-5 - Learning Program's Early Education Workshop Series
Learning Program Boston & Massachusetts Down Syndrome Congress are pleased to offer a 6-part series of Down Syndrome Early Education Workshops that will be hands-on, interactive and build upon each other in succession.

This is for parents and caregivers of children with Down syndrome between the ages of 3-5 who are just beginning to show an interest in letters and numbers

Workshop dates are:
  • Wed, Nov. 4- Understanding the Cognitive Profile & Expanding Vocabulary
  • Wed, Dec. 2 - Teaching Whole Words
  • Wed, Jan. 6 - Effective Learning Sessions
  • Wed, Feb 3 - Working with Your IEP Team
  • Wed, Mar 2 - Colors & Shapes
  • Wed, Apr 6 - Pre-Number Concepts

Next Full Life Ahead Series on Nov. 18 Tackles "What is Family Support?"

What is Individual and Family Support? Who is eligible and how do I get it?

We will answer these questions on November 18 in the next in our ongoing "Full Life Ahead" workshop series, sponsored by Massachusetts Families Organizing for Change (MFOFC) in partnership with Massachusetts Down Syndrome Congress (MDSC) & Riverside Community Care. 

Amy Nazaire, DDS Northeast Regional Director of Family Support, Susan Amirault, DDS Central Middlesex Children and Family Support Supervisor and Valerie MacKenzie, Manager of Northeast Region Intake and Eligibility Services will be available to answer your questions. You will learn how Family Support can assist your loved one and family in having quality of life. Susan Nadworny, Chairperson of Massachusetts Families Organizing for Change, will talk about the "Supporting Families" Campaign - a collaborative effort between five statewide organizations that recognize supporting individuals and their families make for stronger individuals, families and communities. Join us and hear about this exciting new initiative to substantially increase family support funding for families who are supporting their loved one with a disability in their homes and how you can be a part of it.
