Alex Preston
American Idol Finalist to Make Buddy Walk Debut

Preston to join Ayla Brown & Flame at 18th Buddy Walk Oct. 12

Boston-born Alex Preston was a top 4 finalist on American Idol Season 13 that wrapped up this spring. But he is not your typical American Idol. Like many on the program that has launched more than a few careers, Alex can sing - I mean, he can REALLY, REALLY sing! But he is much more than a pretty voice - Alex plays a dozen instruments!

Growing up in Mount Vernon, New Hampshire, Alex discovered music when he was three, thanks to his father's record collection, he told the Hollywood Reporter. "He mostly had classic rock, on vinyl and tapes. Aerosmith and Queen, a lot of music like that," says Alex. Listening to music grew into playing music when Alex was four. "I started with the violin and that's when I knew I wanted to play [music] for the rest of my life."

Alex's musical knowledge quickly expanded. "I took piano lessons. Then I started playing guitar and bass and from there started learning other instruments." But American Idol wasn't exactly Alex's first brush with musical fame. He was able to learn about songwriting and the music industry from his 2nd cousin, country star Jo Dee Messina.

Today, Alex is just back from being on tour with other American Idols throughout the summer, including two shows locally, at the Blue Hills Bank Pavilion in Boston and as part of

the 98.5 MixFest at the Hatch Shell. (See a video of what Alex takes with him on the tour bus). "Now I just want to record an EP and play shows, as many as I can," he said.

We can't wait to have Alex and his talents on display at our 18th Annual Buddy Walk & Family Festival Oct. 12 at Lake Quannapowitt in Wakefield.
