IN 2014, JOIN A WALK FOR CHAMPIONS
3 MDSC Buddy Walks that Make a Difference

If you want to make a significant difference in the lives of people with Down syndrome and their families this year, join an MDSC Buddy Walk in 2014.

As the premiere statewide organization for Down syndrome information, advocacy and networking, we at the MDSC are working each and every day on behalf of you and your loved ones.

In 2014, you can join any or all of our three Buddy Walks to support our mission and make a difference for your loved ones.

The MDSC difference!

Our work has real-world impacts, helping our Down syndrome community while reaching beyond our membership to promote acceptance and inclusion throughout the Commonwealth. Here are some of the things we do:

  • Advocating on Beacon Hill or Capitol Hill for systemic, large-scale change in Down syndrome and disability policy
  • Crafting a major web-based public awareness campaign around employing individuals with Down syndrome
  • Meeting the needs of new and expectant families in a changing medical landscape and ensuring they receive accurate, balanced information upon diagnosis
  • Providing members with access to cutting edge research opportunities
  • Expanding our Self-Advocate Programs, including our signature Advocates in Motion Program and our Self Advocate Advisory Council
  • Hosting two of the region's largest Down syndrome conferences - Annual Conference and Educators Forum - which attract top experts in the field from around the country
  • Provide educational resources including webinars, workshops and a soon-to-be-released comprehensive Educators Manual
  • Providing networking opportunities for families through our New Family Socials, Grandparent Socials, Complex Needs Support Group gatherings, events for families of diverse backgrounds and transition-related workshop series (in collaboration with MFOFC).

2014 Theme Draws Inspiration from You!

The work that we do every day at the MDSC to promote acceptance and inclusion is inspired entirely by you - our members.

That's why we chose a theme inspired by you as well - Champions! Here in New England, we have the World Series Champion Boston Red Sox, and we have demonstrated our "Boston Strong" resilience in the wake of the 2013 Boston Marathon tragedy.

Now, we want to show the world that within our MDSC community, we have 5,000 people with Down syndrome and their families across the Commonwealth each of whom are Champions in infinite ways.

We are champions of good public policy for people with Down syndrome; champions in our cities and towns, educating our co-workers, our teachers and our neighbors; champions of allowing all people with Down syndrome to reach their true potential.

Year after year, no matter the challenges and obstacles before us, we overcome. So join us at one or more of our 2014 Buddy Walks where we will celebrate our resilience, fortify the connections that make us a close-knit family and let the general public see how "Down Syndrome Strong" we are.

Make a Difference at One - or all 3 - Buddy Walks

The MDSC's three Buddy Walks each have their own unique regional/seasonal flavor. But each promises to make a real difference in the lives of people with Down syndrome and their families. So take your pick... or  come to all three!

  • 4th Buddy Walk by the Sea in Falmouth (July 27) - Make a difference while dancing to the Atlantic Avenue Band and breathing the fresh summer air coming off the water along the Cape Cod coast.
  • 2nd Buddy Walk & Harvest Fair in Uxbridge (Sept. 21) - Make a difference while strolling through the woods among the autumn leaves and enjoying the pleasures of a country fair
  • 18th Buddy Walk & Family Festival in Wakefield (Oct. 12) - Make a difference while experiencing the power of communing with thousands of like-minded people. Take in national music acts, celebrity special guests and festival offerings.
We can't wait to see you there!
