featuring keynote speaker
John Dunleavy
Bruins Alumni "Honorary Coach"

John Dunleavy has worked for the Boston Bruins less than two years. But in his short time there, he has already become a well-loved member of the Bruins front office.  Because of his enthusiasm, the cameramen working the games routinely find John and show him on the Jumbotron for the whole crowd to enjoy.

In mid-November, Bruins Coach Claude Julien asked John to give his team a pre-game pep-talk. As highlighted on the New England Sports Channel's "Behind the B" (below), after John's speech the Bruins went on to an overtime victory against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Later that month, John was asked to be the honorary coach for the Boston Bruins Alumni as they faced off against the MDSC All-Stars in our annual charity hockey game.

John is a true Champion, and we are thrilled to have him go from addressing the Bruins to giving the keynote address at our 30th Annual Conference.  He will join over 600 people with Down syndrome, their family members, health care professionals and educators from across New England who will gather to hear the latest research findings and timely information from national and local experts on a range of topics related to Down syndrome.

Every year, the morning of our Annual Conference, the MDSC holds our Annual Meeting, where members get an overview of our work over the last year and the latest updates of what we have in store. The Annual Meeting is at 8 a.m. in Room A of the DCU Center. All are welcome to attend.

At our Annual Awards Luncheon we will honor those individuals who have made a significant impact on the Down syndrome community. We will present our Media Award, Educator of the Year Award, Leadership Award and Allen Crocker Award of ExcellencePlus, we will unveil our Champions Video Collage, featuring MDSC member-submitted photos, all on the theme of Champions!

Our luncheon has also become the perfect forum to highlight the individuality and determination of MDSC self-advocates. Participants in our Self Advocate track will make a Grand Entrance to get the ballroom at the DCU Center on its feet.
