 's HEATHER HEGEDUS TO
'ANCHOR' BUDDY WALK FOR 2ND YEAR
Last year, we were in awe of Heather Hegedus, the Fox25 news anchor who emceed our Buddy Walk & Family Festival for the first time.
Throughout the day on stage, she proved to be a consummate professional. But she was much more than that, too. Consider this...
- Heather was scheduled to work just the morning - but chose to stay to emcee the afternoon as well, while conducting on-camera interviews during breaks.
- Formal events ended at 4 p.m., but Heather stayed around Lake Quannapowitt - even when rain started to fall - just to get to know our community better.
- Somehow, between the hours of 5 and 10 p.m., she put together a comprehensive, balanced news segment that FOX25 aired during their nighttime newscast - which by the way she anchored! (See video below)
As you can read below, this kind of exceptionalism is nothing new for Heather. One glance at her resume and you'll see what we mean: Magna Cum Laude at Georgetown, Dean's List at Columbia, a year at the London School of Economics, stints with the PBS NewsHour and NBC News' National Bureau, an Edward R. Murrow Award and a sweep of the Associated Press Awards for Breaking News, General Reporting, and Investigative Reporting categories.
Next Sunday, join Heather and thousands of other exceptional individuals at the 17th Annual Buddy Walk & Family Festival on Lake Quannapowitt in Wakefield.

Heather was born in Boston and raised in Lynnfield. Her first job, in high school, was as a tour guide on the trolleys in Salem!
Heather graduated Magna Cum Laude from Georgetown University, spent a year at the London School of Economics, and earned a Master's from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism, where she received the Dean's award.
Heather started her over decade-long career in news as a field producer with "The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer" and, later, the NBC News Washington Bureau. She also spent time as an Anchor and Reporter in Binghamton and Syracuse where she was part of breaking news coverage of historic flooding that was honored with an Edward R. Murrow award.
As an anchor/reporter in Hartford, Conn., Heather broke several major stories, including one following several months uncovering which school superintendents across the state were taking raises while their districts made drastic budget cuts. In 2011, she swept the Associated Press and Society of Professional Journalists awards with "First Place" nods in the Breaking News, General Reporting, and Investigative categories.
Heather joined FOX25 News as Weekend Anchor in January 2012. During the week, she is a General Assignment Reporter. She says she's happy to be back in Boston covering news in the cities and towns she knows best.
Heather makes herself easy to follow and connect with. You can email her here, find her on Facebook here, and see her Twitter feed here. Read Heather's complete bio here.

17th Annual Buddy Walk & Family Festival
A THREE-MILE WALK THAT'S SO MUCH MORE
For thousands of people, the MDSC's 17th Annual Buddy Walk & Family Picnic is all about celebrating their loved ones with Down syndrome and connecting with new and old friends.
But it's also so much more!
Each step around the beautiful 3-mile route at Lake Quannapowitt in Wakefield provides critical funds, which allow the MDSC to provide a wide range of support to those directly affected by Down syndrome and advocate for Down syndrome issues on the local and national level. We support new and expectant families, educate health care professionals about Down syndrome and how to deliver a diagnosis, provide social and leadership development for teens and young adults with Down syndrome, equip educators with best practices and resources, and create and influence legislation affecting people with Down syndrome.
Our programs include our signature Parent's First Call, a volunteer, state-wide group of trained parent mentors available 24/7 that is a national model; two major Annual Conferences that draw national and international experts in their fields; and Self-Advocate Programs like Advocates in Motion and our Self-Advocate Advisory Council, which provide opportunities for teens and adults with Down syndrome while making empowerment a central component.
October is National Down Syndrome Awareness, so there's no better time to promote acceptance and inclusion for the Down syndrome community than at our 17th Annual Buddy Walk & Family Festival. Join the excitement and the celebration.
