Career Opportunities at the MDSC
|
We are fortunate to have three part-time career opportunities now available at the MDSC, a Teen & Adult Program Facilitator, Education Resource Specialist & Conference Coordinator, and an Allen C. Crocker Self-Advocate Intern.
Each position will help the MDSC achieve our mission of ensuring that individuals with Down syndrome in Massachusetts are valued, included, and given the opportunities to pursue fulfilling lives. We do this by providing information, networking opportunities, and advocacy for people with Down syndrome and their families, educators, health care professionals, and the community-at-large.

| Teen and Adult Program Facilitator
The part-time Teen and Adult Program Facilitator will assist in planning and implementing the Advocates in Motion (AIM) Program and the Annual Conference for Self-Advocates. This includes planning and implementing monthly AIM events, creating correspondence related to the AIM program, communicating with youth, parents, volunteers, and collaborating organizations on an ongoing basis, and organizing self-advocate participation at Annual Conference.

MDSC Office, 20 Burlington Mall Road, Suite 261, Burlington MA and various event locations

November 2012 - June 2013
Time Commitment
Estimated 10 hours per week, some evening and weekend hours required for events

| Educational Resource Specialist and Conference Coordinator
The part-time Educational Resource Specialist and Conference Coordinator works with the MDSC Management Team to plan, organize, and coordinate all aspects of the MDSC Educator's Forum, Annual Conference and other meetings and events. One of the primary roles of this position is to develop the MDSC as a central clearinghouse of information on all topics related to Down syndrome. Other responsibilities includes overseeing the MDSC Education Task Force, which provides guidance on education related issues to the MDSC.
This position requires a professional with a strong background in Education, Social Work or other related field.
Location
MDSC Office in Burlington, various event locations, and opportunity to work remotely.
Start Date
December 2012/January 2013
Time Commitment
Estimated 25 hours per week, some evening and weekend hours required for events. Possibility of transitioning into full-time position.

| Allen C. Crocker Self-Advocate Intern
In memory of our dear friend who passed away in October 2011, the MDSC is launching a Dr. Crocker Self-Advocate Internship Program. Each Crocker Internship will give a self-advocate an opportunity to work in our Burlington office on a project of their choosing for a period of 4 to 5 months.
Crocker Interns will gain valuable work experience, develop leadership skills, and earn money. And in doing so, they will advance the shared mission of the MDSC and Dr. Crocker, promoting the acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome.
Examples of Crocker Intern Project Areas include, Legislative Advocacy, Office Work (answering phones, filing, making copies, etc.), Community Outreach, Public Speaking, Event Assistance and Social Networking/Blogging. Or, you are more than welcome to come up with your own idea!

MDSC Office in Burlington and off-site locations if appropriate

January 2013 - May 2013 or September 2013 - December 2013
Time Commitment
5 to 10 hours per week, depending on project with some evening and weekend hours if appropriate
