Happy May!  This time of year is exciting.  With the help of little sunshine and some bright blue skies, we hope that communities and individuals are re-energized to jump into action and create creative solutions to challenges and inequities. Whether it's through engaging lecture series, inspiring films, or simple conversations, there are amazing opportunities to be part of the solution throughout our region this month.

Want to stay up-to-date every single day on how you can be part of the solution?  We encourage you to

Morning Girl Talk

Having Important Conversations about

Sexual Health and Domestic Violence

Friday, May 10, 2013

Join FISA Foundation and The Heinz Endowments for an event focused on talking to teen girls about sexual health and safety. Tiffani Thompson from Pittsburgh AIDS Task Force (PATF) will share curriculum from the Girl Talk Program, an educational group for adolescent girls of color that addresses:

  • sexual health and risk taking behaviors
  • STI/HIV prevention

  • condom negotiation

  • sexual coercion in relationships

This presentation will address the challenges of sharing these messages with teen girls, as well as the types of questions girls are asking, the information/misinformation they have, as well as additional complications created by school, home, family, etc.

Following the presentation will be a time for structured networking, including discussion about the challenges and opportunities of discussing sexual health and relationships with the girls you work with.

When: May 10, 2013; 8:30 - 11:00 am (includes continental breakfast)

Where: Union Project, 801 N. Negley Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15206

Cost:  There is NO cost to attend this event, but registration is required

Register:  Online

This morning is meant to provide attendees with a broader knowledge of local resources (agencies, programs and individuals) who are working with girls, and a more specific understanding of the Girl Talk Program at PATF.  We hope this will create new opportunities for collaboration and expand your knowledge of referral options.
