Dear ,

First, a special thanks to everyone who attended our Be Inspired event on Saturday, February 23rd.  It was truly a morning of inspiration and motivation to become activists for change in our communities.  If you weren't able to make it, here are a few topics and ideas that we considered as we gathered together to get inspired:

  • The word "feminism":  What does it mean to you?  Do you consider yourself a feminist?  Are you encouraging your children / students / mentees to do the same? Why or why not?
  • The importance of taking time to rest and rejuvenate as an activist.  Burnout is real!
  • How can adults help young people work for change?  Be supportive.  Be encouraging.  Offer to help.  Provide resources. But mostly, just BE THERE!
March is Women's History Month.  We hope that this month you will take the time to answer the questions above and take the opportunity to actively support gender equity and empowerment for girls and women throughout our region.

Sincerely,
Heather Mediate, Program Director

Please join us for WQED's FREE Community Cinema
screening of:
Wonder Women!
The Untold Story of American Superheroines.

Wonder Women! traces the fascinating evolution and legacy of Wonder Woman. From the birth of the comic book superheroine in the 1940s to the blockbusters of today, this film looks at how popular representations of powerful women often reflect society's anxieties about women's liberation.  Reflecting our culture's deep-seated ambivalence toward powerful women-even in this so-called post- feminist era - women may be portrayed as good, or brave, or even featured as "action babies, " but rarely are they seen as heroes at the center or their own journey.

WHEN:  Thursday, March 7, 2013 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm

WHERE: Toonseum, 945 Liberty Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15222
