Dear ,

It's official - the holiday season is upon us!  This month, as you take time to enjoy the sights, sounds, and tastes of the season, we hope you will join us in the work of empowering young women and girls and promoting gender equity throughout the region.  Whether it's challenging traditional gender biases by buying your young daughter a model rocket and your young son a play kitchen set, or engaging in dynamic conversation with friends about a film that honors the strength and potential that each woman and girl has inside of her - you have the power to make a difference this holiday season.

Also, don't forget to LIKE our Facebook page, FOLLOW us on  twitter, and check-out our newly curated Pinterest boards for even more ideas, inspiration, and information to inspire you.

Wishing you and your family a joyous holiday season!

Sincerely,
Heather Mediate, Program Director
Alison Winters, Program Assistant

 As Goes Janesville

A film by Brad Lichtenstein

Join us for another installment of WQED's season of Community Cinema as we screen the film As Goes Janesville.  This film follows the story of Janesville, Wisconsin - a once tranquil middle-class American town where jobs were plentiful and families enjoyed stability and security.  That stable reality, however, is now only a memory.  Today, Janesville has seen jobs simply disappear and families stretched to their breaking points as citizens and politicians take part in ideological battle of how to turn things around.

WHEN: THIS Thursday, December 6th at 5:30pm
WHEREGoodwill Industries of Southwestern Pennsylvania

Carnegie Museum of Natural History - Empowering Women: Artisan Cooperatives that Transform Communities

Exhibit open thru May 12, 2013

From Africa to Asia to the Americas, female artisans are creating grassroots cooperatives to reach new markets, raise income, and transform lives. Empowering Women explores the work of ten such cooperatives in ten countries. Each has a different motivation: preserving a dying heritage, sustaining the environment, providing a safe haven from violence.

Each story represents the transformative power of women working together to provide for their families, educate their children, steward their environment, promote equality, and give back to their communities.
