Cleo Wipff
Meet Mrs. Cleo Wipff
Cleo came to Trinity Cathedral seven years ago.She comes to the nine o'clock service as she is able. Cleo is a proud 96 years old, so we all understand that she depends on others to be able to come.

Recently Mrs. Wipff was asked, "What keeps you coming back?""Oh, the need to improve myself," she replied. "I need these people to help me do that."

In the conversation she was also asked, "What would be missing for you if Trinity wasn't here?" Her answer was that she depends on our church for the continuing reinforcement of her faith. Maybe that will remind all of us that growing in Christ is a lifetime journey.

We have only a few treasured people who have reached Mrs. Wipff's age while still remaining able to attend more or less regularly. Each of them, and the many others of us following in their footsteps, rely on the many ministries of our church that are maintained and expanded through the Forward With Faith offering.Thank you in advance for your generosity.

How does this relate to my existing pledge of support?
Forward With Faith is an invitation to share gifts over and above the annual pledge. Some who did not pledge may use this opportunity to participate in making our ministries possible. Others are invited to consider an additional gift.

Offering Goals
These are our goals for the offering:
Miracle Goal: $250,000
Challenge Goal: $175,000
Victory Goal: $125,000

The Planned Giving Corner

The Planned Giving (PG) Team is working on a new program to help parishioners build their legacies and provide vibrant, healthy ministries at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral today and for generations to come.   The program will include estate planning, legacy giving, and updated policies to insure your gift is handled properly and confidentially.

Did you already include Trinity Cathedral in your estate plans? Not sure?

The Stewardship Team will be hosting a reception on Friday, August 26th at 4pm to thank all our planned givers for insuring a rich future for all our ministries. Please contact Chris Tzimenatos, our Planned Giving Shepherd, at 916-317-7854 or cmtzimenatos@hotmail.com to confirm or update your basic information or to learn more about planned giving.

The Reading Corner...

There's always something new in our library, which you can check out on the SECOND Sunday of the month.     ~~Phyllis Ehlert

Isn't it appropriate that this month we feature a title on wildfires? Fire Monks: Zen Mind Meets Wildfire by Colleen Morton Busch, relates a frightening event in 2008 when a wildfire almost engulfed the oldest Zen Buddhist monastery in the United States, located in Tassajara, California. Five monks decided to refuse evacuation, and worked with professional firefighters to channel the blaze.

Outreach. Helping those who need to be helped. It is what Church is about. And Trinity models this well. It seems that every week in the e-News and in the insert in the Sunday bulletins we are told about one or another outreach effort going on. Family Promise, Community Dinners, Floyd School, Pilgrimage Sacramento (formerly Safe Ground), T-ACT, River City Food Bank, and more. Have you wondered about all of the outreach ministries happening at here at Trinity? Who are these groups? What exactly do they do? Who can I contact if I want to help out?

Approximately once per month we will showcase one of our core ministries listed above.

Family Promise On Sunday, August 14, after the 7:30, 9:00, and 11:15 services, there will be a Ministry Fair in the Great Hall focusing on Family Promise. Representatives will have  information about this group. Stop by and chat with them. They'll be thrilled to share with you about their ministry, who they are helping and how. There are so many ways you can participate, some with small time commitments.

Feel free to contact me if you have questions, or if you'd like to get involved!

Kobe Barajas and His Family
Still Need Your Help

Annie, Kobe and Chad Barajas

Kobe Barajas has a terminal brain tumor. He is 13 years old and has been dealing with brain cancer since he was 9. He is not expected to live more than 6 more months. His mother is Annie Barajas who attended Trinity with her parents Rane'e and John Les Callett in the 1990s. Annie has had to quit work to take care of Kobe and his twin brother Chad. The family has less income than the rent right now.

They are getting help from the River City Food Bank for food for the family. You can send cash donations to Trinity Cathedral marked "For Kobe" or put them in the offering plate on Sunday marked "For Kobe". You can also help by donating gas cards or grocery gift cards for Safeway or Save Mart. They can be placed in the Floyd School box and I will pick them up and give them to the family. Please put gift cards in an envelope and write Barajas Family on the envelope.

We will begin taking meals to the Barajas family starting August 25. You can take them to the church, my house or directly to the family. I will have further information for you when you sign up. Some of the family favorites are spaghetti, lasagna, pork chops, macaroni and cheese, chicken and roast beef.

If you can help with a meal please sign up at the Welcome Center by the picture of Annie and Kobe. I will be in touch with you.

Thank you so much for helping this family.

Blessings,
Canon Nancy Tennyson
