"A Growing community making disciples who love and serve Christ and His world"
Brian Baker

It has been almost a year since the Supreme Court made marriage equality a reality throughout the U.S. and the Episcopal Church changed our church canons and authorized new marriage rites so same sex couples could be married throughout the church.  Interestingly, there has been a significant increase in weddings at Trinity Cathedral, and not just for same-sex couples.  This Sunday, at 4:00pm we will be hosting an event that celebrates marriage for all couples. It is a service that is based on the new Episcopal marriage rite and will include an opportunity for all couples to renew their vows. This is our first time doing such a service and it could grow into an important tradition at Trinity - coming together to honor couples who have committed themselves to one another in love.

This event will feature the Sacramento Gay Men's Chorus so we know the music will be spectacular.

I hope you are able to join us.

Blessings,
Brian

Centering Prayer is a method of meditation that helps quiet the mind and participate in God's presence. It is a receptive form of prayer - a kind of resting in God.  Learn to just be...in the midst of God's love. All are welcome.

Pride Parade and Festival!

June is known throughout the world as Pride Month - a time for the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) community and its allies to celebrate God's wonderfully diverse creation. Please join us as we affirm our support of the LGBT community at this year's Capital Pride Parade on Saturday, June 4th. We will gather at the parade "staging area" in the parking lot located at 3rd and N Streets at 10:00 am. A Eucharist will follow at 10:30 and the parade begins at 11:00! The parade is free and will travel along N Street ending at 10th Street. If you prefer to not walk the parade route, please consider celebrating by joining the many festive spectators!

Following the parade, a festival will be held on Capital Mall from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. There will be lots of informational booths, fun activities, entertainment and food. Cost to enter the festival area is $10.00 per person. Trinity Cathedral will have a booth and we are in need of folks to help staff it. If you would like to work at the booth, we have six tickets for the festival. What a great way to receive free festival admission! Contact Deacon Steve to make arrangements to work.

The Capital Pride Parade and Festival is sponsored each year by the Sacramento Gay and Lesbian Center located on L Street at 19th. Founded by Jerry Sloan, a local gay activist and former evangelical minister, the center offers many support services and resources to people who are gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender as well as straight people who are interested in helping to secure equal rights for the gay community.

For more information, please contact Deacon Steve Skiffington at deaconskiff@gmail.com or Mickie Dundon  midun45@comcast.net.
This Sunday - June 5
Summer Choir
Summer Choirs at Trinity

Have you ever wanted to give one of the Cathedral Choirs a try?? But not sure about the time commitment?? Then summertime is just for you! During the summer months the Celebration Choir and Cathedral Choir continues to sing for Sunday services, but there are no weeknight rehearsals. A short rehearsal on Sunday morning prepares us for the service following.

The Summer Celebration Choir practices at 8:20 am in the Assembly Area, and sings for the 9:00 Eucharist.

The Summer Cathedral Choir practices at 10:40 am in the Cathedral, and sings for the 11:15 service.

No audition is required for either group, and you can participate on Sundays as you are available. And who knows... maybe the experience will encourage you to join one of our choirs full time! So come and join us... you are assured of a "warm" welcome and great music.

Small Group Bible Study
by Jerry Paré

Members of Trinity have expressed a yearning for two things:  more small, faith based discussion groups and more Bible study opportunities.  We are combining the two in a Sunday afternoon opportunity for small group Bible study.  The group will meet from 3:00 - 5:00PM on Sundays beginning June 5.

The group will usually focus on the Gospel reading of the Sunday.  Members will use a method called Lectio Divina to discern God's Word for each and for the entire group.   Lectio Divina is a guided reflection during which a Scripture passage is read at least three times.  After the first reading there is a question of "what word or phrase stood out for you in this passage?"  After the second reading, the question is "What do you hear in this reading that impacts on your life right now?"  The third reading is followed by the question "What is God calling me to through this reading?"

Lectio Divina takes elements from numerous other methods of Bible Study.  You don't have to be a "Scripture scholar" to reflect on the Scriptures.  But this method is much more than sharing feelings and questions about the Scripture passage.  It is a method of discernment for each person in the group and for the entire group.

Come and check it out starting on June 5 at 3:00 PM.  Contact Kelly Mieske (916-719-8149) for more information.

The Trinity Cathedral Music Series presents
The Vocal Art Ensemble
"ROOTED - How Culture Shapes the Choral Art"

The Vocal Art Ensemble digs deep into the salt of the earth, excavating the cultural foundations that shape the ever-flourishing art of song. Cultivating choral transplants across countries and generations, VAE nurtures a musical garden of human experience, through the common grounds of life, death, faith, serenity, love, and dreams.

Collaborating in this program will be ceremonial sound practitioner René Jenkins, who uses ancient indigenous instruments to harvest timeless soundscapes of magical dimensions.

The suggested donation is $10-25, and all are welcome to join us!
Diploma It's Graduation Sunday!

On Sunday, June 12th, at the 9:00 a.m. service we will honor our graduates!  If you, or someone in your family is graduating from high school or college, please call Rev. Kathy Hopner (916-616-1052) or the church office (916-446-2513) and let us know your name and high school or degree.  We'll also recognize all our children who have completed this school year.

NorCal AIDS Cycle wraps up for 2016!

River City Roadies: Gayle Monroe, Joan Purser and David Link
On Sunday, May 15th, cyclists and crew made their way from Auburn to the State Capitol, to wrap up another season of NorCal AIDS Cycle. On the heels of a shoulder injury, and feeling severely under-trained, I was still able to ride 220 of the 300 miles of the ride. And I was very happy to have ridden the entire last segment from Auburn to Sacramento.

I first want to thank my River City Roadies teammates Gayle Monroe and Joan Purser for their companionship and support. And all of the other cyclists and crew who were a part of this amazing event. You are the reason which I return year after year.

And lastly, to everyone who supported me with their pocketbooks. This year (so far), we have raised over a quarter-of-a-million dollars to benefits agencies in our community, providing support to those suffering from HIV/AIDS, and who provide prevention and testing services. Every contribution makes a difference the in the life of someone you may never know.

Now, you might be thinking... "oh bother... I never got around to making a contribution." Never fear... we can take donations for two more weeks! Just click the this link, and help me hit my goal of $5,000 for 2016!

Francis House
is a place of hope and promise.  We find solutions to problems that  our clients bring to us.  It is our job to ask questions to find a way to empower each person.

During the early years of Francis House, it was normal for the agency to give unconditionally because that was the accepted practice.  We now know that by asking "why" questions we are able to develop long term solutions and provide a sense of hope to the clients that seek our help.

We provide direct services, meeting one-on-one to identify needs and find resources to best meet the needs of each individual person by reaching out to the community.
When Francis House first began, it was about giving to those less fortunate.  We gave without asking why.  Bus passes were important for people who wanted to look for work.  However, we recognized that the practice was not effective.  So Francis House created a Job Development Center to provide help in resume writing, interviewing and computer skills by a resource counselor.  The success rate for job placement has been amazing.   To qualify for this program, clients must have an EBT card, medical card, or utility bill and must attend an orientation.

We have a Family Rescue Program that provides temporary shelter for one week to parents and guardians with at least one minor child.  To qualify for this program, clients must have a valid California ID or Driver's License, proof of income and proof of custody for a minor child.

We have a supervised playroom for the children of the people being served by Francis House programs.  The children are offered activities and a snack while their parents focus on finding work, housing, or meeting with resource counselors.

Early this year, Francis House merged into Next Move to stabilize our funding and leadership, so it is now a program of Next Move.  This merger has provided a larger area of outreach for our community.  Eliminating the duplication of administrative costs and services is critical in an effort to provide services that are cost effective.

If you would like to know more about Francis House, please feel free to ask me anytime.  This experience has provided me with the opportunity to fulfill my spiritual gift of giving.
Annie, Kobe and Chad Barajas

Kobe Barajas and His Family

Need Your Help

Kobe Barajas has a terminal brain tumor. He is 13 years old and has been dealing with brain cancer since he was 9. He is not expected to live more than 6 more months. His mother is Annie Barajas who attended Trinity with her parents Rane'e and John Les Callett in the 1990s. Annie has had to quit work to take care of Kobe and his twin brother Chad. The family has less income than the rent right now.

They are getting help from the River City Food Bank for food for the family. You can send cash donations to Steve Skiffington's discretionary account or put them in the offering plate on Sunday marked "For Kobe". You can also help by donating gas cards or grocery gift cards for Safeway or Save Mart. They can be placed in the Floyd School box and I will pick them up and give them to the family. Please put gift cards in an envelope and write Barajas Family on the envelope.

Thank you so much for helping this family.

Blessings,
Canon Nancy Tennyson
