Church Video

The Stewardship Committee is working to develop and produce a video on Trinity's ministries, programs and services. We are seeking talented individuals who are willing to donate their talent and time to assist us on this project. The work will primarily be meeting periodically to develop messaging and review pictures/videos for production. If interested or if you have any questions, please contact Rod Thomas at 502-558-2497 or email him at rthomas0604@gmail.com .

The Reading Corner...

There's always something new in our library, which you can check out on the SECOND Sunday of the month.     ~~Phyllis Ehlert

Isn't it the musical "Caberet" that has the line, "Money, money, money"? The library has the book used in our Thursday night class, The Soul of Money, which the Dean read a year ago and wanted to share. Money was a big item with Jesus. Supposedly He talked about it sixty-eight times, more than any other topic. Yet another book we have that addresses money is People over Profit. Dale Partridge says that there is a new kind of innovative entrepreneur with a business model that puts the soul back in business through an accountable, compassionate economy.

Centering Prayer is a method of meditation that helps quiet the mind and participate in God's presence. It is a receptive form of prayer - a kind of resting in God.  Learn to just be...in the midst of God's love. All are welcome.

A 2016 "Growing in Faith" meeting.
Affirming Our Vocation
By Jerry Paré; Catechumenate Director

This Sunday is Pentecost Sunday. Many call it the "Birthday of the Church." The reason for this is narrated in the reading from the Acts of the Apostles. This is the reading during which some members of Trinity proclaim part of this passage in different languages.

The reading tells what is possible when we are inspired by the Holy Spirit. We build up the Body of Christ by witnessing to Jesus. As St. Paul reminds us, each of us has been gifted, through the same Holy Spirit, with talents and skills to proclaim God's love (I Corinthians 12: 4-27). Our continuing task is to discern our gifts and how the Lord is calling each of us to use them now and in our current circumstances. "Here I am, Lord. Show me what you would have me do."

Jessie Orgambide and Mathieu Gallagher were baptized at the Easter Vigil. They have been praying for God's guidance. Bill Shane, and Jan Murray were confirmed. They have been praying for God's guidance. Shari Dearing was received into the Episcopal Church. She has been praying for God's guidance. Ann Arneil, Laurie Moulton and Ben Larkey reaffirmed their faith. They also have been praying for God's guidance.

These are members of this year's Growing in Faith, the process for preparation for baptism, confirmation, reception and reaffirmation. We are at the end of this very intentional journey. We have asked questions from the first day to now:   Who is God for me? Who is Jesus for me? What are my beliefs? So what? And most recently, "Where would you have me go from here, O Lord?" We will celebrate the end of this journey Sunday at the 11:15 service with the "Affirmation of Vocation." The Affirmation of Vocation takes place at the end of the Mass. It is a celebration of God's response to the question "What do you want me to do now?" It is also the celebration, not only to the end of the intentional journey that is Growing in Faith, but also to the continuing journey of being Christ's Body, the Church.

We will all reaffirm our vocations this Sunday. That is a part of the Pentecost celebration. Please pray with our Growing in Faith members as they publicly affirm theirs.
Thursday Night at the Cathedral
 on May 12

Compline - 6:00pm
Dinner - 6:15pm
 Classes - 7:00pm

Thursday Night at the Cathedral (TNAC)
Classes at 7:00pm

Dog Whistle Politics: As a congregation, we just finished a series of "Sacred Conversations for Racial Justice." This had a tremendous impact on our community. As a continuation of this conversation, Deacon Steve Skiffington and Deacon Tina Campbell will lead a book study on Ian Haney López' book entitled Dog Whistle Politics. Dog-whistle politics is political messaging employing coded language that appears to mean one thing to the general population but has a different meaning for a targeted subgroup. The analogy is to a dog whistle, whose high-frequency whistle is heard by dogs but inaudible to humans. This class will discuss racist policies in American through the lens of code words.

The Soul of Money The Soul of Money: The Soul of Money is an enjoyable, inspiring book inviting us to live our lives with gratitude and a sense of sufficiency. We are constantly fed messages of scarcity and insufficiency. Lynn Twist uses moving stories from her life and her work to look at the power money has over our lives. While focusing on our relationship with money, this book is really inviting us to live all of our lives with more joy, gratitude and connection to one another. Pamela Anderson, Vaughn Wolff and Bruce Roy will be leading a book study on this in the Conference Room.
This Sunday - May 15

NorCal AIDS Cycle on the road!

By the time you read this, NCAC 2016 will be underway! On Thursday we will be riding from Raley Field through Davis, Winters, Woodland, and then east up to Auburn. On Sunday afternoon we will head down the hill for our closing ceremony at the State Capitol at 11 am.

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported us this year. If you have not gotten around to it, you can still make a contribution by clicking this link

I will be posting updates on Facebook throughout the ride, and you'll hear all about it after we return. Again, thank you everyone, for your support!
PilgrimageSAC
(formerly known as Safe Ground)

Did you know that Trinity hosts a weekly dinner for our homeless friends and neighbors each Wednesday at 6:00? In addition to the Community Dinners on the first three Wednesdays, we are privileged to be part of a multi-congregation network of churches that make up PilgrimageSAC.

On the fourth Wednesday of every month, in the Great Hall, we prepare and serve a hearty and nutritious hot meal complete with local produce and delicious desserts, as well as provide a safe and comfortable place to sleep for the night. Over the course of just one year, Trinity Cathedral is a welcoming resting place for over 1000 guests.

This particular ministry opportunity is at once; inspiring, fulfilling and always fun. Our volunteers are an eclectic mix of Trinity
Harry K., a long time Wednesday night volunteer, keeping an eye on John Kraynak
members and folks from our surrounding community who all share the same spirit of hospitality and the willingness to give their time. Please consider joining us in the future. You can contact jessie@trinitycathedral.org to sign up for a shift or to ask any questions you may have.  Otherwise, feel free to stop by the Great Hall any Wednesday after 5:00. You'll be glad you did.

Annie, Kobe and Chad Barajas

Kobe Barajas and His Family

Need Your Help

Kobe Barajas has a terminal brain tumor. He is 13 years old and has been dealing with brain cancer since he was 9. He is not expected to live more than 6 more months. His mother is Annie Barajas who attended Trinity with her parents Rane'e and John Les Callett in the 1990s. Annie has had to quit work to take care of Kobe and his twin brother Chad. The family has less income than the rent right now.

They are getting help from the River City Food Bank for food for the family. You can send cash donations to Steve Skiffington's discretionary account or put them in the offering plate on Sunday marked "For Kobe". You can also help by donating gas cards or grocery gift cards for Safeway or Save Mart. They can be placed in the Floyd School box and I will pick them up and give them to the family. Please put gift cards in an envelope and write Barajas Family on the envelope.

Thank you so much for helping this family.

Blessings,
Canon Nancy Tennyson
