"A Growing community making disciples who love and serve Christ and His world"
Brian Baker

This Sunday I will be beginning a six week study of the book The Soul of Money.  This book is also being studied Thursday night and by our Vestry. This week we will look at the first chapter. If you want to attend and don't have the book, please come anyway. This first week I will be introducing the book and will use excerpts.  You can begin reading after the class.

Here is how the author, Lynn Twist introduces her book:

"This book is entitled The Soul of Money, but it is really about our own soul and how and why we often eclipse it, dismiss it, or compromise it in our relationship with money: the way we get money, use money, give money, and or sometimes just try to avoid thinking about money. This book is about finding a new freedom, truth, and joy in our relationship with money, this strange, troubled, and wonderful part of our lives. And it is about awakening and using the unexamined portal of our relationship with money to deliver a widespread transformation in all apsets of our life. Ultimately, this book is a pathway to personal and financial freedom."

I read the book last Fall and have been eager to discuss it with a group.  I hope you can join me. The class will be at 10:15 in the Assembly Area, upstairs above the church office.

On another note (bad pun intended) our new antiphonal organ is installed and will be played this Sunday. It is beautiful. I'm eager to hear it.

This is also a healing Sunday, so we will be having prayers for healing offered at all of our services.

Blessings,

Brian

Thursday Night at the Cathedral (TNAC)
Classes at 7:00pm

Dog Whistle Politics: As a congregation, we just finished a series of "Sacred Conversations for Racial Justice." This had a tremendous impact on our community. As a continuation of this conversation, Deacon Steve Skiffington and Deacon Tina Campbell will lead a book study on Ian Haney López' book entitled Dog Whistle Politics. Dog-whistle politics is political messaging employing coded language that appears to mean one thing to the general population but has a different meaning for a targeted subgroup. The analogy is to a dog whistle, whose high-frequency whistle is heard by dogs but inaudible to humans. This class will discuss racist policies in American through the lens of code words.

The Soul of Money The Soul of Money: Vaughn Wolff will lead this class. While we honor Lynn Twist's story by reading her book, The Soul of Money, the challenge is for each of us to affect our culture by making changes in our attitudes, beliefs, vocabulary and behavior. This can be less scary when we feel supported and then with each person discovering the Truth about our Source and our True Nature, the little changes we make become hallmarks, approved by no one else, but the Indwelling God. This will be an opportunity to dig deeper into our own beliefs and experiences, to break clouds of darkness of fear and lack, which ultimately mirrors how we act and react in our closest relationships. Come join Vaughn's class on Thursday nights at 7pm in the Cathedral Book Shop.

The Soul of Money: The Soul of Money is an enjoyable, inspiring book inviting us to live our lives with gratitude and a sense of sufficiency. We are constantly fed messages of scarcity and insufficiency. Lynn Twist uses moving stories from her life and her work to look at the power money has over our lives. While focusing on our relationship with money, this book is really inviting us to live all of our lives with more joy, gratitude and connection to one another. Pamela Anderson and team will be leading a book study on this in the Conference Room on Thursday evenings at 7pm.

Instructed Eucharist
Sunday, April 10 at 3:00 PM in the Cathedral

Do you sometimes wonder why we do what we do on Sunday mornings?  For example, why do some people bow before they enter a pew or when the cross goes by?  Why do we kneel at certain times and stand or sit at other times?  What is going on in the "ebb and flow" of the Mass?  An "Instructed Eucharist" is one way of getting some answers to these and other questions about our Sunday worship.  An instructed Eucharist is an actual Mass with commentary.  The commentary explains why there is a procession; why there are 2 Lessons and the Gospel; what a "collect" is; and much more.  Rev Diana Turner will preside at this Eucharist and Jerry Paré will add the commentary.  Please join us on Sunday, April 10 at 3:00 PM in the Cathedral!  For more information, contact Jerry Paré (jpare@trinitycathedral.org; 916-930-8032)

Next Week and Beyond...

T-ACT and Sacramento ACT Event

INFORMATIONAL FLYERS WILL BE IN THE CHURCH PROGRAM AT ALL SERVICES THIS SUNDAY

WHATYou're invited to join the Rev. Dr. Pamela Anderson, Director of Adult Spiritual Formation, and the Rev. Steve Skiffington, Cathedral Deacon, for the ACT (Area Congregations Together) Delegates Assembly.

WHERE:This is Pentecost Fellowship Ministries,
6489 47th St., Sacramento

WHY THIS IS IMPORTANT:
SACT Logo Sacramento ACT (Area Congregations Together) is a group of congregations which was formed to bring voices of faith to the public arena to address social issues of interest to the faith community.  The cathedral was a founding member. Twice a year ACT members come together to share information on the work each congregation is working on.  This is your chance to meet and hear from the wider faith community as they inform each other of the issues and the work each of them is doing.

The Reverend Canon Dr Grant S Carey
antiphonal "processional" organ

After two years of planning, fund-raising, and work, the Cathedral Organ Restoration Project is now complete. The craftsmen at Schoenstein organ builders have completed the installation of the new antiphonal division, and it will be heard for the first time this Sunday!

Our deepest thanks to all who have supported this project with their checkbooks, time, and work. Trinity Cathedral's fine pipe organ has now regained a prominent place in the musical community in Sacramento! The organ will be officially re-dedicated by Bishop Beisner during his visitation in October, and their will also be a gala organ concert by virtuoso organist Bruce Neswick.

The completely restored Cathedral organ will be heard in all of it's glory, on Sunday, April 17th at 4:00 pm, at Canon David Link's annual Benefit organ concert for NorCal AIDS Cycle. The program will include Bach's (in)famous Toccata and Fugue in d minor, plus music by Josef Rheinberger, Samuel Wesley, C.S. Lang, Louis Vierne, and Alan Wilson. The suggested minimum donation is $10, but donations of any size , large or small will be gratefully accepted, and will make a bit impact in our community.

Please join us!
Mama Dragon Story Project
Mormon mothers who love their LGBT children
Monday, April 18th, 7-8:30pm
Trinity Episcopal Cathedral
27th & Capitol

The Mama Dragons are a newly formed group of mothers of LGBT children who have come together to share their stories in the hope of making the world a safer place for their children.  The stories are told via large photo boards, each bearing a portrait of the mother and her story. Jana's story can be read by following this link. 70 Mama Dragons, covering six western states, have shared their stories since January 2015.

The event begins with a tour of the exhibit and ends with several Mama Dragons telling their story. This will be a deeply moving evening and is offered in the hope that their story will lead to greater love and acceptance of LGBT children everywhere, especially among worshiping communities.

Donation Opportunities...

DOK logo Daughters of the King (DOK)

The Trinity DOK chapter is in need of your scrap material.  We are doing a project to support people when they have an emotional need and need to be uplifted.  Soft material is the best.  Flannels, soft cottons, any material that would be soft against the skin.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.  Please take any material to the office and mark it for DOK.

Family Promise Family Promise...
...is Looking for an 8-12 Passenger Van

Due to necessary budget cuts, Family Promise of Sacramento was forced to retire the bus it had used for many years to transport its participating families from its center to the host churches. Since then the families have been forced to use their own transportation, which for some has been disastrous: during Trinity's last host week February 14-20, 2016, the car of one of the families was totaled in a freeway accident, leaving a single mom with an infant with no way to get to work, daycare, or the church. (She and baby were okay, by the way: shaken but not hurt.) Because of this Family Promise is now appealing to its member churches, asking if any of them or their members has a full-sized passenger van they can donate. The van has to be in working condition as Family Promise doesn't have the funds for major repairs or renovations. Appearance is not an issue, however! If you can help, please contact Marsha Spell at Family Promise Sacramento at 916-443-3107.
