"A Growing community making disciples who love and serve Christ and His world"
Brian Baker

Welcome to the Easter Triduum, the holiest period in the church year. The primary services of these three days are the services of Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and the Easter Vigil. Each of these services begin at 7:30pm.  These services are considered one long service, so after the Thursday and Friday services, there is no closing blessing or dismissal. The three primary services are augmented with other services and activities.
Here's a more detailed description.  We have two services today, each commemorate the Last Supper.  There is a 5:30 service designed for children and families. Our 7:30 service includes foot washing and holy communion. After communion the altar and chancel are stripped bare of any ornamentation. For those who want to stay a little longer, there is a silent vigil in the East Transept, representing the time Jesus spent in the Garden of Gethsemane. The vigil ends with Compline around 9:00pm.

On Friday we have a three hour Good Friday vigil from noon until 3:00pm.  We also have a group walking around the city in prayer as part of Stations of the City.  The day ends with our Good Friday liturgy at 7:30pm.

On Saturday we have a Holy Saturday liturgy in the Cathedral at 9:00am.  Also at 9:00 there is a breakfast hosted by the Men's group. At 10:00 we have a time for egg dying and making Easter crafts that concludes with an Easter egg hunt. The Vigil is at 7:30pm.

Our Easter morning services are at the regular times: 7:30, 9:00, 11:15 and 12:45pm.  We have a grand brunch after each service.

In order to extend a wide welcome to our Easter services, we published a brochure about Trinity Cathedral in the Sacramento News and Review and Sacramento Bee today.

Blessings,

Brian

Centering Prayer is a method of meditation that helps quiet the mind and participate in God's presence. It is a receptive form of prayer - a kind of resting in God.  Learn to just be...in the midst of God's love. All are welcome.

Stations of the City on Good Friday
Friday, March 25

The Rev. Kathy Hopner and Rev. Megan Anderson will lead a Stations of the City liturgy. This service blends elements of Stations of the Cross with elements of contemporary city living. Stations of the cross originated as a way in which Christians could take a sort of pilgrimage journey reflecting on the last moments of Jesus' life. This Good Friday we will share the story of Jesus' last hours while walking to sites in need of justice work such as River City, the hospital, and the RT station. The Stations Journey will start with worship at the Cathedral at noon and will end back at the Cathedral before the main Good Friday vigil has concluded. If you would like to offer a short reflection at one of our stops or would like to be involved in the stations in any other way, please let us know!

Next Week and Beyond...

Thursday Night at the Cathedral (TNAC)
Classes beginning Thursday, March 31, 7:00pm

Dog Whistle Politics: As a congregation, we just finished a series of "Sacred Conversations for Racial Justice." This had a tremendous impact on our community. As a continuation of this conversation, Deacon Steve Skiffington and Deacon Tina Campbell will lead a book study on Ian Haney López' book entitled Dog Whistle Politics. Dog-whistle politics is political messaging employing coded language that appears to mean one thing to the general population but has a different meaning for a targeted subgroup. The analogy is to a dog whistle, whose high-frequency whistle is heard by dogs but inaudible to humans. This class will discuss racist policies in American through the lens of code words.

The Soul of Money The Soul of Money: Vaughn Wolff will lead this class. While we honor Lynn Twist's story by reading her book, The Soul of Money, the challenge is for each of us to affect our culture by making changes in our attitudes, beliefs, vocabulary and behavior. This can be less scary when we feel supported and then with each person discovering the Truth about our Source and our True Nature, the little changes we make become hallmarks, approved by no one else, but the Indwelling God. This will be an opportunity to dig deeper into our own beliefs and experiences, to break clouds of darkness of fear and lack, which ultimately mirrors how we act and react in our closest relationships. Come join Vaughn's class on Thursday nights at 7pm in the Cathedral Book Shop.

The Soul of Money: The Soul of Money is an enjoyable, inspiring book inviting us to live our lives with gratitude and a sense of sufficiency. We are constantly fed messages of scarcity and insufficiency. Lynn Twist uses moving stories from her life and her work to look at the power money has over our lives. While focusing on our relationship with money, this book is really inviting us to live all of our lives with more joy, gratitude and connection to one another. Pamela Anderson and team will be leading a book study on this in the Conference Room on Thursday evenings at 7pm.

Sacred Conversations for Racial Justice:
Listen for a Change

The votes are in! Based on feedback from attendees, the follow-on to our discussion series will be a project that we've titled:

"These are OUR issues, too!"

To begin, help us bring a large contingent of Trinity Cathedral members to the Tuesday, April 12th Delegates' Assembly for Sacramento Area Congregations Together (ACT). The event begins at 7pm at This Is Pentecost Fellowship Ministries, 6489 47th Street, Sacramento.

Directions: From downtown, take 99 S. South of Fruitridge Road, exit the freeway on 47th Avenue.
Take 47th Avenue east and turn right on 47th Street.

SACT Logo Delegate Assemblies, held once or twice a year, are an opportunity for ACT's 50+ congregations, organized into Local Organizing Committees or LOCs, to report out on their accomplishments. You will hear an update on the local social justice organizing work in which LOCs are presently engaged, meet new people and learn how and where your efforts are particularly needed at this moment. Attending the upcoming Delegates' Assembly is an excellent way for the members of Trinity Cathedral n to learn more about ACT's work, including its cutting-edge work on racial justice, and to move from courageous conversations to action.

Harry Katzakian

Harry's memorial service will be held at Trinity Cathedral on Saturday, April 16, at 11:00am.

Women's Retreat

The annual women's retreat will be held April 29-May 1, 2016 at Mercy Center Auburn.  This year's theme is "Finding Sanctuary:  Anytime, Any Place, Any Where."  We will look at ways that we can create mental headspace in the middle of chaos to create sanctuary so that we can reconnect with God and find deep peace.  The cost is $175.00. If you would like to come for the day on Saturday, the cost is $34.75 and that includes the lunch. If you need a scholarship, please speak with Pamela Anderson. There are only 25 slots and they are filling fast so be sure to sign up soon. For your convenience, you can register online through Eventbrite using this link. Or you can register with the front desk office volunteer Monday-Friday. If you write a check, please write "Women's Retreat" in the memo line.

Additionally, on select days, you can sign up on Sunday mornings in the Great Hall at the Women's Retreat table. If you have any questions, please contact Pamela Anderson at Pamela@trinitycathedral.org. Come join the fun!

Donation Opportunities...

DOK logo Daughters of the King (DOK)

The Trinity DOK chapter is in need of your scrap material.  We are doing a project to support people when they have an emotional need and need to be uplifted.  Soft material is the best.  Flannels, soft cottons, any material that would be soft against the skin.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.  Please take any material to the office and mark it for DOK.

Family Promise Family Promise...
...is Looking for an 8-12 Passenger Van

Due to necessary budget cuts, Family Promise of Sacramento was forced to retire the bus it had used for many years to transport its participating families from its center to the host churches. Since then the families have been forced to use their own transportation, which for some has been disastrous: during Trinity's last host week February 14-20, 2016, the car of one of the families was totaled in a freeway accident, leaving a single mom with an infant with no way to get to work, daycare, or the church. (She and baby were okay, by the way: shaken but not hurt.) Because of this Family Promise is now appealing to its member churches, asking if any of them or their members has a full-sized passenger van they can donate. The van has to be in working condition as Family Promise doesn't have the funds for major repairs or renovations. Appearance is not an issue, however! If you can help, please contact Marsha Spell at Family Promise Sacramento at 916-443-3107.
