"A Growing community making disciples who love and serve Christ and His world"
Brian Baker

Last week I was travelling for two interesting events. First was a conference in Denver for larger Episcopal congregations. I was invited as a guest of parishioners who were friends of one of the organizers of the event. The conference offered a sharing of resources and ideas to help congregations thrive.  After two days in Denver I traveled to Dallas for a meeting of the Executive Council of the Episcopal Church. I noticed a significant common thread in both events: evangelism. The Episcopal Church is waking up to its mission to share good news with people in exciting ways. In Denver I saw a compelling presentation by Mary Palmer who is challenging churches to look at their ministries through three lenses: invite, welcome and connect. I found the "invite" lens to be the most interesting. It is the thing we aren't doing.  I don't have my notes here, but she said according to a Gallup poll, a large percentage of people polled (I want to say about 80%) would go to church if a friend invited them. She then told us stories of churches that are being creative in connecting with people who are outside the church. You can see some of her presentation by following this link.

At Executive Council we looked at plans for planting new churches, starting new ministries and training people in evangelism. We approved funding for marketing and the development of an app that would help people connect with the Episcopal Church. Under Bishop Curry's leadership it is clear that we are in a new era in the church and I am personally very excited for our future.

I will be in Auburn at the Mercy Center with your vestry at our annual vestry retreat this weekend. Canon Andrea McMillin will be facilitating our meeting. Please pray for us.

Blessings,

Brian

Creeds from the Growing in Faith Candidates...
During a retreat focused on the Apostles' Creed, we ask our catechumens and candidates to write their own creed. We do this because these candidates, and all of us, will proclaim our Baptismal Covenant at the Easter Vigil and on Easter Sunday. During Lent we will share with you the creeds that the candidates composed during the retreat.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
I believe in the good of all mankind.
I believe in the love of God.
I believe in Jesus Chris my savior, and the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost.... a holy spirit
a form of being, that I can truly understand.
I believe in these persons to guide me when I feel lost,
wander aimlessly or go astray.
I believe with God's help I have the strength to help myself, by helping myself I can help others. Others whose needs are greater than my own. I feel blessed when I can reach the hearts and souls of those desperately in need of love and understanding.
I must know that I'm important and matter so that in turn I can help others
understand that they too are important and matter.
I know how meaningful it is to have God in my life again. Life can and will be a struggle, questionable and unexplainable at times.
I will no longer venture through this life or in my afterlife alone. I'm surrounded by the Love and strength of those around me. The living and the dead, for all of their spirits are with me now. God has been my savior in the beginning, now and life everlasting. Dead or alive I shall persevere.
Centering Prayer is a method of meditation that helps quiet the mind and participate in God's presence. It is a receptive form of prayer - a kind of resting in God.  Learn to just be...in the midst of God's love. All are welcome.
2016 Annual Appeal - Final Update
Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.  2 Corinthians 9:7
Our final appeal this past Sunday generated nearly $15,000 in pledges and increases in existing pledges. It is always amazing to see whenever there is a need; we always come together without reluctance to support the need. We are grateful to everyone who has committed their time and resources to our 2016 appeal and to our Church.
Our final total for 2016 is $948,911, 63% of our goal of $1.5 million and 90% of our budgeted goal of $1.05 million. Again, thank you for generous gifts.
Grace and blessings,
Rod Thomas and Chris Tzimenatos
Veterans Meeting
Meets in Room A at 10:15am
All veterans are encouraged to join us!
We are starting registration for our Veterans History Project (VHP) if you are a veteran or a family member of a veteran and have a story to tell please contact Rev. Diana Turner at tedsgal99@yahoo.com and she will send you a packet and answer and questions you might have.  If you are interested in recording your story for personal or family memories we will also record those memories for you without sending to VHP.  Our goal is to let your stories be remembered.
The United States Congress created the Veterans History Project (VHP) in 2000 as part of the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress, one of the world's most respected research and cultural institutions.
VHP's mission is to collect, preserve and make accessible the personal accounts of American wartime veterans so that future generations may hear directly from veterans and better understand the realities of war.
We will offer our veterans who served in the United States military, in any capacity, from World War I through the present and are no longer serving to participate, regardless of branch or rank. Civilians who served in support of a United States war effort in a professional capacity also are welcome to participate. Trinity's youth group will be interviewing and recording their stories.
Blessings,
Rev. Diana
Hiking
Hiking Guild Special Hike: SUTTER BUTTES
Saturday, March 19, 2016
Ridge Hike - East Shaeffer Ranch
This is a special hike in a deeply spiritual place that has touched the hearts of all in our group. It was the last time that we had the pleasure of the company of Alan Meyer on one of our outings. There are many hikes throughout the Buttes, rated from 1 boot to 6 boots [1 being easiest: 3-4 miles, less that 600 feet elevation].   The beauty of this area is difficult to express. You will return to Sacramento with a renewed sense of wonder.
You have to make advance reservations for this hike, as the landowners who allow us to go on their properties try to limit the impact on their ranches. Also, there is a cost of $35.00 per person, which must be paid as indicated below to secure your reservation.   Money goes to pay for the docents who lead the hikes; help the landowner defray administrative cost [insurance]; and support the Middle Mountain Foundation, a non-profit organization that seeks to keep the Buttes from being developed commercially.
Because of the drive to the Buttes, the time for gathering at the cathedral and departure are changed. Make sure your alarm clock is adjusted accordingly.
Otherwise, same Rules:
  • 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month:
  • Meet on Cathedral steps at 6:45am for a 7:00am departure:
  • Bring plenty of water, snacks and a sack lunch.
  • Prepare to have good fellowship and a good walk in God's Great Outdoors.
This is a special hike for members of our group of hikers.
Send your check for $35 per person made out to:
         Middle Mountain Foundation
         PO Box 3613, Yuba City, CA 95992
         March 19, 2016
I am having Middle Mountain hold open 18 spaces for this hike out of a total of 23 allowed. When those spaces are gone, you will have to wait until next year to see the buttes.   So please, if you want to go one this hike, sign up ASAP. Your check should Memo Trinity Episcopal Cathedral Group.  Please e-mail me and let me know you are signed up so I can keep track.
