"A Growing community making disciples who love and serve Christ and His world"
Brian Baker

The first event I attended at Trinity Cathedral was the annual dinner and meeting -- ten years ago. I was struck my how much fun the dinner was. Each table had a different theme and people were having a great time.  I was pleased to see I was coming to a congregation that had such positive energy.  I had been selected to be the Dean but wouldn't officially begin my work at Trinity for another month or so.  This will be my eleventh annual meeting here. I hope you are able to join us. If you haven't signed up for the dinner, come anyway.  We'll find a place for you. If you can't come to dinner but would like to come to the meeting, show up by 6:30We will begin the meeting as dinner is ending, probably around 6:30 PM.

Also, if you are able to pledge for 2016 and have not yet done so, it would be helpful if you could turn your pledge in by the Annual Meeting.  The stewardship team would like to present an accurate picture of our anticipated income. We have 59 pledges from last year that have not been renewed. If you intend to pledge, please let us know. You can email Rod Thomas at rthomas0604@gmail.com.

Two Early Birds Needed

Pilgrimage Sac (formerly Safe Ground Pilgrimage) needs two early risers to serve breakfast to our overnight guests on the 4th Thursday of every month. Duties include making coffee and a simple breakfast (usually oatmeal). We need two people that are available from 6:30am to 8:00am to serve breakfast and clean the kitchen. If you are available and interested, please contact co-coordinator Jessie Orgambide at jorgambide@gmail.com
Creeds from the Growing in Faith Candidates...
During a retreat focused on the Apostles' Creed, we ask our catechumens and candidates to write their own creed. We do this because these candidates, and all of us, will proclaim our Baptismal Covenant at the Easter Vigil and on Easter Sunday. During Lent we will share with you the creeds that the candidates composed during the retreat.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
I believe that the greatest idea in Christianity is that God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son to live, to love, and to suffer as a full human being.
I believe Jesus Christ is an archetypical hero and teacher.  His miracles do not conflict with scientific truth or historical fact.  They transcend these paradigms. And tell of a deeper psychological truth; that remains hidden from the dualistic mind.
I believe if you devote yourself to the teachings and example of Jesus Christ, it will lead to miraculous experiences in your life.  Miracles such as a mother's love for her child or the discovery of meaning in an apparently materialistic universe.
Yet, sometimes these miraculous experiences can be painful.  Christ's calling can lead our identity to places of great turmoil, suffering, and confusion.  Places that make our ego die.   Yet, miraculously something new is resurrected.  Something less self-centered, more in communion with life, and even transcendent of time.
I believe this transcendent experience is called the Holy Spirit.
I believe the Holy Spirit can most powerfully be found in the work of compassionate community.
I believe a foundational practice of compassionate community is forgiveness and letting go.  True forgiveness of ourselves is only learned as we forgive others.
So these things I believe:  in the Love of the Father, the Path of the Son, and in the Transcendence of the Holy Spirit.
Amen
Centering Prayer is a method of meditation that helps quiet the mind and participate in God's presence. It is a receptive form of prayer - a kind of resting in God.  Learn to just be...in the midst of God's love. All are welcome.
Hiking
Hiking Guild Special Hike: SUTTER BUTTES
Saturday, March 19, 2016
Ridge Hike - East Shaeffer Ranch
This is a special hike in a deeply spiritual place that has touched the hearts of all in our group. It was the last time that we had the pleasure of the company of Alan Meyer on one of our outings. There are many hikes throughout the Buttes, rated from 1 boot to 6 boots [1 being easiest: 3-4 miles, less that 600 feet elevation].   The beauty of this area is difficult to express. You will return to Sacramento with a renewed sense of wonder.
You have to make advance reservations for this hike, as the landowners who allow us to go on their properties try to limit the impact on their ranches. Also, there is a cost of $35.00 per person, which must be paid as indicated below to secure your reservation.   Money goes to pay for the docents who lead the hikes; help the landowner defray administrative cost [insurance]; and support the Middle Mountain Foundation, a non-profit organization that seeks to keep the Buttes from being developed commercially.
Because of the drive to the Buttes, the time for gathering at the cathedral and departure are changed. Make sure your alarm clock is adjusted accordingly.
Otherwise, same Rules:
  • 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month:
  • Meet on Cathedral steps at 6:45am for a 7:00am departure:
  • Bring plenty of water, snacks and a sack lunch.
  • Prepare to have good fellowship and a good walkin God's Great Outdoors.
This is a special hike for members of our group of hikers.
Send your check for $35 per person made out to:
         Middle Mountain Foundation
         PO Box 3613, Yuba City, CA 95992
         March 19, 2016
I am having Middle Mountain hold open 18 spaces for this hike out of a total of 23 allowed. When those spaces are gone, you will have to wait until next year to see the buttes.   So please, if you want to go one this hike, sign up ASAP. Your check should Memo Trinity Episcopal Cathedral Group.  Please e-mail me and let me know you are signed up so I can keep track.
