Volunteer & Donation

Opportunities...

Floyd School

Clothes Closet

A big THANK YOU! goes out to everyone who donated gently used clothing and new underwear and socks over the summer. On August 27, which was a week before school started, we opened the Clothes Closet to families who were attending a "get acquainted" evening at the school. Twenty-five families came and found back-to-school clothing for their children. They were very appreciative. As you can see, the need continues. As your children outgrow their clothing, please remember the Clothes Closet. We accept sizes Newborn to Size 16.

The Cathedral Choir

 invites YOU

Recognized as one of the finest church choirs in Northern California, the Cathedral Choir and is open to experienced singers of High School age and older. The choir emphasizes a high standard of singing within the classic Anglican tradition, and the choir's repertoire encompasses a large variety of music from Renaissance, Classical, Romantic and Contemporary periods.

The Cathedral Choir rehearses in the Cathedral each Wednesday evening at 7:00 pm, and sings for the 11:15 am Sunday Eucharist, as well as Choral Evensong at 6:00 pm on selected Thursday evenings during the season.

The Cathedral Choir has made four tours of England, acting as "choir-in-residence" at several of the great English Cathedrals. Our fifth Tour in August of 2003 included performances at Peterborough and Canterbury Cathedrals and Westminster Abbey, and our sixth tour is planned in a couple of years. A personal interview and simple audition is desired of new members, and may be scheduled by contacting the Canon for Music, David Link: 916-446-2513 xt 224 or sierracanon@gmail.com

If this sounds of interest to you, please contact him at vewolff@yahoo.com.  Additionally, he needs some extra help in the kitchen on Friday, October 2nd for the Dewitt Jones reception from 3pm onwards as well.  Thanks everyone!

Digital Camera

Donate your unused

Digital Camera

"Do you have any out of use digital cameras you would be willing to donate to my students? I teach English at Hiram Johnson High School and have taken on Yearbook at the last minute this year. Part of the reason Hiram Johnson students continue to permeate a negative image (even though my students are AMAZING) is based on lack of resources. We need a few good digital cameras for my kids to check out for special events and games. If you have a digital camera sitting in a closet/on a shelf waiting to make my students feel important and accomplished, I would be super grateful."

Please bring your donations to Pat Underwood at the Trinity Cathedral Office and she'll be sure to get them to the Hiram Johnson High School yearbook teacher.

Thursday Night at the Cathedral

 on September 10

Compline - 6:00pm

Dinner - 6:15pm

 Classes - 7:00pm

CLASSES beginning September 10

Holy Wholly One, Behold Me, Wholly One
Most of the science of philosophy has taught us that God is omnipotent- all powerful, omniscient- all knowing and omnipresent. Much of the theology of tradition tells us that God is Holy- in the vision of Isaiah: Holy Holy Holy. The Holy One is usually defined with a separate and exclusive nature. We will look at a revelation of the Divine as not exclusive but rather as the All Inclusive One. We will learn how to love, and be loved by, a Whole God with a Whole heart and how to love a Whole neighbor as the Whole self is loved.  This class will be facilitated by Morey Lloyd.

Coming of Age in Mississippi
On August 6, 1965, President Lyndon Johnson signed the voting rights, making poll taxes and literacy tests as prerequisites to vote unconstitutional.  Anne Moody's Coming of Age in Mississippi chronicles her journey as a young girl and as a woman in the thick of the Civil Rights movement in the South.  Come and discuss her journey on Thursday nights in the Cathedral Bookstore.  The book is available for purchase in the bookstore.  This will be facilitated by Susan Hotchkiss.

Mental Health 101
This series will delve into the complex issues related to mental health. We will share information about the local system of support, the places where glaring gaps exist, and our county's plans to augment services.
September 10:
Debunking the Myths about Mental Illness
Ann Arneill-Py, who is a new Trinity Cathedral member, will kick off our six-part series on mental health. Ann is the former Executive Director of the California Mental Health Planning Council, which has oversight of the public mental health system and advocates for persons with serious mental illness. She has worked in the public mental health system at the state level for 26 years. She has a PhD in psychology from UC Davis.

Her presentation will focus on debunking myths that people have about mental illness. It will include a discussion about the stigma associated with mental illness, the prevalence of mental illness, types of mental illnesses and their impacts, types of treatments, homelessness in Sacramento and some of its causes, and access to treatment through private insurance.

Pope Francis and the Environment
Discussion of Pope Francis' Encyclical Letter (Laudato Si) TREE (Trinity Respecting Earth and Environment) members will be studying and discussing Pope Francis' Encyclical Letter (Laudato Si) for four weeks in September.  The Pope touches on every major environmental and economic issue facing humanity today thoughtfully and compassionately.

His Encyclical Letter deserves to be taken seriously and, more importantly, acted on. Members of TREE will facilitate this study and we invite you to come join the conversation.

Follow this link for classes offered beginning in October.
