"A Growing community making disciples who love and serve Christ and His world"

We are blessed with an abundance of gifted clergy at Trinity Cathedral.  Many of them are volunteers who are either retired or have other, non-church jobs, but exercise their priestly ministry at the Cathedral.  Diana Turner, Jesse Vaughan, Anne Arthur and Bob Phillippi all volunteer their time at the Cathedral.  I'm pleased to announce another priest who will be joining us.  The Rev. Robert Blumenstock is a retired priest who will be serving at the Cathedral on Sunday mornings as well as participating in various ministries throughout the week.  His role at the Cathedral will evolve over the next few months as he settles in.  Here is a brief introduction from Robert:

Hi! I am Robert Scott Blumenstock and I have accepted Dean Baker's gracious offer to serve as an associate at Trinity Cathedral. This is the second time that I have done so and I am grateful for the opportunity. I graduated from S. F. State in 1969 and worked in the stock market in San Francisco. I went from there to the elections industry working as a programmer writing and running elections (punch card ballots). A business background has always been a valuable foundation for my ministry.  In 1985 we sold a house in the Berkeley hills to attend Virginia Seminary. After graduation I was ordained a deacon at Grace Cathedral, San Francisco and was ordained a priest at Trinity, Mobile, Alabama.  Before returning to California 18 years ago, I served parishes in New Bedford and Somerset, Massachusetts. In this diocese I have served at St. Luke's Galt, St. Mary's Elk Grove, and Trinity Sutter Creek. My wife Doni and I have been married 40 years; have three grown daughters and four grandchildren. I serve as a volunteer with Golden Retriever Rescue and we are owned by a 3 year old Golden Doodle named Sweet Pea. My passions for ministry are preaching, healing, pastoral care, and stewardship. I have served as the Stewardship officer for this diocese.  I have also served as the chair of the Evangelism Committee for the diocese of Massachusetts.  I am looking forward to meeting those of you I have not previously met, and sharing in ministry with you.

Blessings,
Brian

Donation Opportunities...

My name is
Isabel Marwick...

I am 14 years old and a Girl Scout Cadette working on my Silver Award this year. My Silver Award project is helping homeless children by providing activities to keep their minds off of being homeless. I do this by organizing games and craft projects for the children during their time with Family Promise at Trinity Cathedral Church.

I need your assistance to further my project along and provide greater assistance to the homeless children. I am looking for donations of craft supplies, school supplies, personal toiletries, blankets, pillows, and stuffed animals. All donations will be given to the homeless children who participate in the Family Promise program.

I will be available to accept donations in the Great Hall on Sunday mornings from the end of the 9:00 worship service to the beginning of the 11:00 worship service for the next couple of months.

Please come by and let me share my project with you. I will be handing out samples of my craft activities and will be happy to teach you how to make one.

Also, the Family Promise program needs people to help host the families during their stay at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral Church during the week of September 13th. Please come out and help.

Thank you. ~~ Isabel

Would you like

to join us??

Stephen Ministry at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral is a program of caring. Stephen Ministers are trained to give one-on-one care to someone who is experiencing a life-changing event: grief, illness, job loss, divorce, a new baby in the family, loss of a loved one, a difficult move, an ailing family member.

We are trained for 50 hours, then commissioned to serve in this ministry for at least two years. In addition to Continuing Education, we also receive support from our peers as we meet with our care receivers.

As Stephen Ministers, we do not: fix anyone; suggest solutions; give pep talks or direction; go shopping; help around the house; express any kind of judgment. We are not therapists or part of a medical team, although we may meet with someone who is experiencing this kind of support.

We do: show up, listen, pray and listen some more . . . week after week, sometimes more than once a week, for about an hour.

Our ministry is simple, effective and dynamic, changing with the occurrences of life, meeting needs as they evolve and change with each situation.

Our next training class begins October 5th.  For information, contact Cherie Chamness in the bookshop, call 916-442-9194 or email Susan Wilson at snbwilson@gmail.com

Centering Prayer is a method of meditation that helps quiet the mind and participate in God's presence. It is a receptive form of prayer - a kind of resting in God.  Learn to just be...in the midst of God's love. All are welcome.

Changes Coming to Safe Ground Pilgrimage

All ministries are a form of life, and as such, have changes. Starting this month, Trinity Cathedral will host the Safe Ground Pilgrimage once a month on the fourth Wednesday. Thus the next time Safe Ground will return is August 26.  Kevin Donohue and Ron Waddell will be our "Chefs de Cuisine" - the Dinner Captains that oversee kitchen operations, and develop our evening's menu.

For many years our cathedral family, along with many others from the greater Sacramento community, have graciously and generously opened their hearts and their arms to the homeless community via the Safe Ground Pilgrimage Ministry. As we all face change in our personal lives, the same goes for ministries. Some of our volunteers have retired from active ministry, some have changed jobs or moved, and others have felt called by the spirit to other ministries.  This is good and it is the natural cycle of our lives, and of the life cycle of any ministry. We are deeply grateful for the work of all who have given of their hearts and their time.

Donna Chipps invites all to follow her on her third journey on the Camino de Santiago de Compestela in Spain.

In 2012 she arrived in Santiago the same day that Lynell began her journey.

August 13 -- Facilitated by Loren Weatherly.

Sir Michael Tippett
Some consider Sir Michael Tippett the equal of Benjamin Britten. Maybe you've wondered who Sir Michael was. Here is what Clive Paget, writing in Limelight, Australia's Classical Music and Arts Magazine had to say.

"Out and proud? You betcha! One of the few twentieth century composers who examined and discussed his own sexuality, Sir Michael Tippett was a brave light in a period of relative darkness. Unlike the tightlipped Benjamin Britten, he was out there almost waving the rainbow flag. Not that he had it easy: "Being unable to enter into a biological relationship with a woman, it seemed that I was excluded from an understanding of half the human race", he wrote. His relationship with Wilfred Franks, a young painter, produced, in his own words "the deepest, most shattering experience of falling in love", and was "a major factor underlying the discovery of my own individual musical 'voice'." The first composer to seriously portray gay characters in his operas, and to explore the possibilities of bisexuality, Tippett was a true pioneer."

Please join us in Room A at 7 pm on Thursday August 13 to hear about Sir Michael's music and his life. We will listen to and focus on "A Child of Our Time," one of his best known works.            ~~Loren Weatherly

August 19   Seraphine

(Rated G and Subtitled)

Set in 1913, Seraphine is based on the real life of a deeply religious charwoman burdened by grueling chores by day.  By night she experiences mystical visions that inspire her to paint richly imaginative works of art. Though her neighbors dismiss her, a German art critic takes her under his wing, and the consequences for them are both exhilarating and disturbing. Winner of seven Caesar Awards (French Oscars).
