"A Growing community making disciples who love and serve Christ and His world"
Brian Baker

What an amazing Holy Week and Easter!  This may have been the most joy-filled, moving Holy Week I have ever experienced.  We are blessed with such a remarkable group of volunteers, staff and clergy and for everyone, preparing for, and participating in the services and events were holy acts of prayer.  It was great to see all the work on Holy Saturday as the flower committee made the amazing arrangements and the altar guild cleaned and set the altar vessels.  The Easter egg hunt was joyful.  The brunch abundant.  And the preaching was rich and moving.  We are so blessed to have such a remarkable team leading and serving us.  Christ is risen indeed!

I will be preaching this Sunday and then Andrea and I will be going to Jerusalem for almost two weeks.  The annual conference of North American Cathedral Deans will be meeting at St. George's College in Jerusalem.  We normally meet at a North American cathedral, but periodically we go somewhere exotic.  Andrea and I have never been to the Holy Land and I hope our time may prepare us to lead pilgrimages in the future.   I will only miss one Sunday and will be back in the pulpit on April 26.

This Sunday we will begin offering a non-alcoholic (grape juice) chalice at the standing station in the West Transept.   A couple of years ago we hosted a Recovery Sunday where we lifted up the challenge many people face with addiction.  At that time, we received several requests for a way for people who cannot abide alcohol to receive both the bread and the cup.  It took a couple of years to work out the details and also get the blessing of the bishop.  At the standing station in the West Transept, there will be two chalices: a silver chalice with wine and a ceramic chalice with grape juice.

Floyd School News...

Sleeping Beauty rehearsals are underway and we are beginning to work on costumes for all of the cast.  We are hoping that some of you might have some of the following fabrics stashed away that you no longer need. We are clothing 2 kings, a prince, Aurora, five fairies, 6 gems, 4 ghouls, an owl, a robin and a rabbit.

Some of the items we need are: leather like material, black knit fabric for making hoods, white tule for fairy skirts, gold braid, and white cotton fabric to make shirts. We need artificial flowers: Lilacs, daisies, iris, and pink roses.

If you have any of these items please contact Nancy Tennyson, nntennyson@gmail.com or bring them to church on Sunday.

We are also in need of adults who can come help the children learn their lines. We need helpers on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 3:45 to 5:00 pm. come to Room 9, the library.

The next committee meeting for the play will be Monday, April 13 at 6:00 pm in Room C.

Thank you for your help.

Blessings,

Thursday Night at the Cathedral

 on April 9

No compline, dinner or

small groups

 will meet tonight.

This Sunday - April 12
"Do this often in remembrance of Me"

These words are part of the consecration of bread and wine that happen every time we celebrate Holy Communion at the Cathedral.  They come from Jesus and were spoken at the last Passover meal he shared with his disciples before his crucifixion.  Each week we come forward and share in a meal together, but I have become increasingly aware that there are some for whom full participation in this Eucharistic feast is not possible.

The Worship and Music Ministry Team has worked on this and have decided that beginning the Sunday after Easter, April 12th, we will begin offering the "wine" in both kinds: the white wine we currently use and white grape juice.  At each of the services there will be a white grape juice option in the west transept and it will be in a pottery chalice for easy identification.

The Cathedral has had a long history of accommodating those with allergies to wheat by offering rice wafers.  It only seems right that we offer white grape juice to those who have reasons not to drink wine:  small children, people with health/medication issues and people in recovery.  +Bishop Beisner and Dean Baker are fully on board with this decision.  We want all to be welcome to fully participate at Christ's table. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Prayer Shawl: Crochet / Knitting Group

Meets in the East Transept at 10:15am

Knitters, Crocheters and anyone interested in crafting prayerfully for the benefit of others.

WE'RE MOVING from the Great Hall to the East Transept of the Cathedral for our gathering.

We are meeting at the same time, during the break between 9:00am and 11:15am services.

We can do MORE than shawls, things like hats and blankets, or gifts for babies.  We can celebrate good news as well as providing comfort to those in times of need.

We are happy to TEACH anyone who is interested we have plenty of supplies and plenty of members with decades of experience.

Easter Small Groups are starting April 12th

For four weeks all the groups will look at the appearances of Jesus in the each of the four Gospels. As you may have experienced in the previous sessions, each of these groups has a different flavor and there is such an abundance that there is a place for everyone.

Many members shared that they were able to form a deeper connection with other members in the groups, in particular members who they may not have known very well.  They were able to share stories and have an intentional time to listen to each other in ways that are just not possible during coffee hour.

Some groups were able to share these stories while doing an activity they loved, like the gardening group baring their souls while planting seeds. What a growing in faith experience!

This is such a wonderful way to really get to know the other people that are in this great community of Trinity.

Next Week & Beyond

Family Promise Trinity Steps Up for Family Promise!

Earlier this year, one of our sister churches in the Family Promise network was forced to discontinue hosting the families due to a major remodeling project. This left no one to take the families in during the week of April 12, 2015. After some discussion with Family Promise Sacramento and two sister churches, St. John's Lutheran and First United Methodist, Trinity agreed to host the Family Promise families on the nights of Friday, April 17 and Saturday, April 18, 2015. We would like to thank Outreach Ministries coordinator Deacon Steve Skiffington and Properties Manager Dana Chamness for moving heaven and earth (and a few meetings) to have the families stay at Trinity. We'd also like to thank Ric Burwell for offering to haul the Family Promise trailer to the next host church on Sunday morning the 18th, and the coordinators at our sister churches, St. John's Lutheran and First United Methodist. Family Promise Sacramento will provide the dinners and the overnight hosts (all graduates of Family Promise).

We'd also like to welcome MeriAngel Enriquez as our new co-coordinator for Family Promise at Trinity. She's a fantastic addition to a ministry that requires many active hands and brains. Thank you as well to all of you who have stepped up to help the families while they are staying at Trinity. We are grateful for your support!

We welcome all who'd like to be involved in this rewarding ministry. Our Family Promise families return for another week on May 10, 2015, so mark your calendars!
