"A Growing community making disciples who love and serve Christ and His world"
Brian Baker

Sunday is the beginning of Holy Week, the most important week of the Christian year.  In Holy Week we are invited to enter deeply into the mystery of God's love for us as communicated through Jesus triumphal entry into Jerusalem, Last Supper, Crucifixion and Resurrection.  These events, and the stories we tell to remember them, are vast in meaning and in their ability to shape our hearts.  Each year I enter Holy Week anticipating how the week will impact me.  For me this week functions as a spiritual retreat - a time of concentrated prayer and pondering.  I don't think I will ever understand the meaning of Jesus death and resurrection.  I don't think that really is the goal.  Rather these stories, and this week, is intended to wash over us, and through us, with the mystery of God's love.  I know if I participate faithfully and with holy intention, this week will change me.  I invite you to join me in as many of the week's services as you can. Click here for a schedule of services.

On a completely different note, I would like to report on last weekend's Vestry retreat.  The Vestry had a very good experience at the Jesuit retreat center in Applegate.  We are organizing ourselves into four different committees: finance, stewardship, facility and admin/governance.  Each member of the vestry will serve on one of the four committees.  We also elected officers: Kevin Sanders as Junior Warden, Mike Pinkerton as Chaplain, Laura Jestes as Clerk.  Prior to the meeting we had elected Pat Ronne to be Treasurer and I appointed Kevin Donohue to be Senior Warden.   Please keep the members of the Vestry in your prayers as we begin our work together.

Blessings,

Brian

Floyd School News...

Sleeping Beauty News

Our  Cast has been selected and the first week of rehearsals is completed.  We are looking forward to the week after next. The children have Spring Break next week.

We will continue rehearsals on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays beginning April 6 from 3:30 to 5:00 pm. We are looking for adults to work with small groups to learn their lines. We need to help Morgana, the bad fairy, get her mean on and we need the good fairies to speak up. The gruesome ghouls need to get more ghoulish and the gems need a little polish.

Please come to the school any day you can help: 401 McClatchy Way, Sac. 95818 off 5th and Broadway behind Channel 10.
Our Sleeping Beauty committee will meet on April 6 at 5:30 in Room C. Come to that meeting if you would like to help.

We're dreaming of a great play.

Blessings,  Dale Reinhard and Nancy Tennyson

Our National Reading Day was a success at Floyd School. Please look at the Floyd School Bulletin board in the Great Hall on Sunday. We have some cute thank you notes from some of the students.  What is nice to know is that students come up to me and say "You read to our class the Bad Ants or Harry and the Terrible Whatsit  we liked that."  Thank you to all who read it was a great day.

Maundy Thursday Service for Children and Families

Thursday, April 2 at 4:30 p.m.

Living out our faith stories help us to know that this great story is ours, and that we, too, have an active role in it. At Christmas the story becomes real and tangible for children as they take part in the journey to the stable as angels, shepherds or kings. On Maundy Thursday we have a wonderful opportunity to explore and experience one of our most important stories: the last supper Jesus shared with his friends. We'll wash feet, share the bread and wine, and clear and wash the altar as we leave the space empty for the transformation of the resurrection. Maundy Thursday sets the stage for the wonder and joy of Easter. Please join us for this engaging, interactive service designed especially for children. All are welcome!

Stations of the City on Good Friday

Friday, April 3

The Rev. Kathy Hopner and Rev. Megan Anderson will lead a Stations of the City liturgy. This service blends elements of Stations of the Cross with elements of contemporary city living. Stations of the cross originated as a way in which Christians could take a sort of pilgrimage journey reflecting on the last moments of Jesus' life. This Good Friday we will share the story of Jesus' last hours while walking to sites in need of justice work such as River City, the hospital, and the RT station. The Stations Journey will start with worship at the Cathedral at noon and will end back at the Cathedral before the main Good Friday vigil has concluded. If you would like to offer a short reflection at one of our stops or would like to be involved in the stations in any other way, please let us know!
