In August 381 members of Trinity Cathedral completed an extensive survey provided by HolyCow! Consulting.  The survey results provide important information on member satisfaction and priorities.  The Rev. Canon Andrea McMillin from the Bishop's office presented the results to the vestry.  I presented the results to the staff.  The results are already impacting our program choices and I expect they will influence our strategic planning.  I will be presenting the results of the survey this Sunday at 10:15 in the Cathedral.

Blessings,

Military Veterans

My ministry at Trinity is to develop and support our veterans.  Now that the holidays are over and things are settling down a bit I would like to start by gathering information for a Veterans Roster of name, address, phone, rank, branch of service, years of service, combat years. After the Roster is developed I would like to begin home visits for those who would enjoy that or are not able to travel and eventually having a scheduled weekly time for veterans to gather and visit with each other.

Please submit your roster information by email at diana.turner15@yahoo.com

Blessings,
The Rev. Diana Turner
In the Community

Dear Community Partners,

On Wednesday, January 28th, Sacramento Steps Forward will lead the 2015 Homeless Point in Time (PIT) count, and we need your help recruiting volunteers.

The PIT count is a comprehensive, county-wide effort aimed at ensuring that we have counted all sheltered and unsheltered individuals and families living on the streets of Sacramento County.  The information gathered during this count is greatly valuable to our community, as it will help us understand our community's needs and can help us compete for federal dollars. For this year's count, we need an estimated 400 volunteers, and are partnering with HandsOn Superior California to recruit community volunteers.

Please use the link below to sign up, and please share with your networks. Your help in recruiting volunteers is greatly appreciated!

2015 Homeless Point-in-Time Count Volunteer Portal

In addition to the evening count, each volunteer must attend a pre-count training.  We are committed to conducting the best count possible, and your help is essential!

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at mwallace@sacstepsforward.org or call 916-993-7702.

Sincerely,
Maya Wallace

Ending Homelessness In Sacramento

The St. Mark's Social Justice Advocacy Team is sponsoring a special workshop/presentation regarding a new program focused on "Ending Homelessness: Problem, Possibilities, Progress, and How the Faith Community Can Help."

Date: Sunday February 8

Time: 12:30 - 3:00 PM

(Light snacks available)

Place: Wesley Hall

The speaker is Mr. Ryan Loofbourrow, Executive Director of Sacramento Steps Forward (SSF) a nonprofit agency created by both the City and County of Sacramento. SSF is charged with the responsibility of developing programs to end homelessness. Mr. Loofbourrow will discuss a recent implemented program called Common Cents designed to house the chronically homeless population and represents a critical link in his vision for a comprehensive plan for ending homelessness in Sacramento.

The program will include Mr. Loufbourrow's presentation, time for questions and answers and discussions of benchmarks that SSF might develop to measure results. The event will end with a brief discussion of next steps the St. Mark's community might take in shaping its advocacy agenda for 2015.

For more information please contact Mike Jaske (916 383-7646) or Howard Lawrence (916 481-3592)

Canon Link and

The Red Baron ride again!

After last year's NorCal AIDS Cycle event, I was really tired. And I started to think that after four years, I wasn't going to ride this year. Then, I went to the beneficiary check presentation ceremony in August. The emotion shown by our team sponsor (The River City Food Bank) was such, that I though "I have to ride it again."

So The Red Baron and I have signed on to ride NCAC for 2015. This 330 mile bike ride raises funds for agencies in our community, serving those with HIV/AIDS.

Many of our local agencies are struggling due to lack of funding. In fact, a long time beneficiary of ours, Breaking Barriers, had to finally close it's doors this fall, as they simply could not afford to keep them open.

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported me in the past. Won't you please support NCAC for 2015?? Just click this link to make a quick and easy contribution. http://tinyurl.com/l6ezaq7

Manna from heaven

In Deuteronomy 8:3 the Bible says: "He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your father had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord."

We too at Trinity depend on manna but unlike Moses' followers we cannot wake up one day and expect a sudden gift from heaven.  The care and ministries of Trinity depend on YOU.  Every year when the pledge drive comes around it reminds me of Capitol Public Radio which seems to have a pledge drive every other week (thank God Trinity's is just once a year).  On my morning drive to work I listen to Capitol Public Radio ask for pledges to keep the programs I like to hear such as "All Things Considered,"  "Insight," or my favorite "Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me."  Programs are expensive and without contributions, from listeners like me, they would all go away.  So my family makes a pledge to Capitol Public Radio.  The same is true for Trinity's many wonderful programs.  Without your support Trinity would not be able to function and would have to cut programs.  If you have not had a chance to make a pledge, OR would like to increase your pledge please do so today.  You can do so by going by the office, or picking up the phone and calling 916-446-2513, or go on line.   Remember man cannot live by bread alone.

Yours in Christ,

Randy Cheek

Safe Ground

Trinity Cathedral's Safe Ground Pilgrimage ministry is off to a great start in 2015! We served our first delicious meal prepared by volunteers, and provided safe, comfortable sleeping space for our homeless community on Wednesday, January 14. We are gearing up for our next Safe Ground Pilgrimage evening on Wednesday, January 28, and are looking for volunteers to help out!

We also have a NEW e-mail system through Constant Contact for Safe Ground, which will expand this year to cover other outreach ministries as well. We are very excited about this update, and hope that you will consider joining our e-mail list through THIS LINK.

If you have any questions, or would like to volunteer for Safe Ground, please contact the Trinity Safe Ground coordinator, Michael Donnoe, at mdonnoe@gmail.com, or via cell at 916-992-3196.

Trans 101

Bring your honest questions and your open mind and heart to this series of six facilitated presentations, addressing various aspects of the transgender experience in a spiritual setting.  We will explain terms, share stories, and together, come to an even deeper understanding of what it means for an institution, church, or group to be radically inclusive. The following topics are scheduled (but are subject to change) for the class: Let's start at the very beginning, The Episcopal Church's Response to transgender individuals, Parents and Friends, Gender Identity and Youth, Schools and Transgender Youth, Transgender Military life. Guest speakers and facilitators will change each week. Check the website (trinitycathedral.org/learn/thursday-night-cathedral) for updates on topics and/or presenters.

E-Squared              Facilitator: Vaughn Wolff

"E-squared could best be described as a lab manual with simple experiments that prove reality is malleable, consciousness trumps matter, and you shape your life with your mind. Yes, you read that right. It says prove." From the back cover of E-squared, by Pam Grout, available in the Cathedral Bookshop. Drop-ins are welcome!

Small Group Leaders Training

Saturday, January 24, 8:30am to noon

We have some very exciting news! During the season of Lent, we will give you the opportunity to join a small group for six weeks. In a recent survey at the Cathedral, there was a high priority for small groups and for building relationships in our church community and here is your chance to participate. We will kick off our small groups with Matthew Fox who will speak at the cathedral on Friday, February 20 at 7pm and then you can sign up for a small group which is most convenient to your schedule. As we prepare for this time together we are asking for small group leaders to participate in a required training day on Saturday, January 24th from 8:30am-noon. The training is free and we will gather in the Assembly Area. Our trainers will be the Rev. Megan Anderson and the Rev. Kathy Hopner. If you are interested in signing up, please RSVP with the office. If you have further questions about the program, please contact Rev. Dr. Pamela Anderson at pamela@trinitycathedral.org and she would be happy to speak with you. We look forward to our time together as we strengthen our relationships and faith.

Next Week & Beyond
Choral Evensong and Candlemas Procession
Thursday, February 5 at 6:00 pm

Celebrated since the fourth century, the Feast of the Presentation of our Lord, commemorates the journey of Jesus family to the temple, forty days after his birth, according to Jewish custom. St Luke recounts their encounter with the elderly Simeon, who tells Mary and Joseph that their son is the "light to lighten the gentiles, and glory of his people Israel." For hundreds of years, a candle-lit procession symbolizing that "light" became a part of the celebration, and the feast has come to be known in many places as "Candlemas."

On February 5th the Trinity Cathedral Choir will sing our monthly service of Choral Evensong, preceded by a Candlemas procession from the Cathedral courtyard. The service will include music by John Sanders and Charles V. Stanford, and the anthem "There Shall a Star" by Felix Mendelssohn.

Please join us for this beautiful and unique service!

Usher Meeting

Sunday, February 8, 2015

10:15 a.m. in Room A

Ushers are critical for ensuring that all of Trinity Cathedral's members and visitors feel welcomed and comfortable.

Recently, the ushers have been requested to alter some of our long-standing protocols, which may have caused some confusion. Dean Baker will meet with the ushers at 10:15 (in the break between the 9:00 and 11:15 services) to go over the new protocols and to answer any questions. If you are not currently an usher, but have an interest in exploring this welcoming ministry, please join us!

If you are unable to attend, but have questions, please send them to KFDSAC@att.net.   We will make sure we get an answer circulated to everyone.

Thanks,

Kevin Donohue

Senior Warden
