"A Growing community making disciples who love and serve Christ and His world"
Brian Baker
Last summer many members of Trinity Cathedral completed a survey intended to help us evaluate how our ministries are going and to help us understand where we may want to put our resources as we plan for the future.   At the end of the summer the vestry had a day-long retreat where we looked at the results and the staff saw the results in the Fall.
One item that was clearly expressed in the survey was a desire for more opportunities to create relationships.  We have many activities at Trinity, but it can sometimes be hard to have conversations that lead to authentic community.  The staff has taken this to heart as they looked at their programming for 2015.  The Rev. Pamela Anderson and the Adult Spiritual Formation team will be launching a new small-group program in Lent that we hope will sate this need for deeper relationships.   The program will begin with a talk given by Matthew Fox on Friday evening, February 20.  Then groups will be invited to discuss his book "Original Blessing."  Training for group leaders and a curriculum will be provided.  I encourage you to look for more information as we put the groups together.

If you are learning more about the results of the survey, I will be giving a presentation on the results next Sunday, January 25, at 10:15 in the Cathedral.

Blessings,

Brian

Military Veterans

My ministry at Trinity is to develop and support our veterans.  Now that the holidays are over and things are settling down a bit I would like to start by gathering information for a Veterans Roster of name, branch of service, years of service and contact information. After the Roster is developed I would like to begin home visits for those who would enjoy that or are not able to travel and eventually having a scheduled weekly time for veterans to gather and visit with each other.

Please submit your roster information by email at diana.turner15@yahoo.com

The Rev. Diana Turner
In the Community

Dear Community Partners,

On Wednesday, January 28th, Sacramento Steps Forward will lead the 2015 Homeless Point in Time (PIT) count, and we need your help recruiting volunteers.

The PIT count is a comprehensive, county-wide effort aimed at ensuring that we have counted all sheltered and unsheltered individuals and families living on the streets of Sacramento County.  The information gathered during this count is greatly valuable to our community, as it will help us understand our community's needs and can help us compete for federal dollars. For this year's count, we need an estimated 400 volunteers, and are partnering with HandsOn Superior California to recruit community volunteers.

Please use the link below to sign up, and please share with your networks. Your help in recruiting volunteers is greatly appreciated!

2015 Homeless Point-in-Time Count Volunteer Portal

In addition to the evening count, each volunteer must attend a pre-count training.  We are committed to conducting the best count possible, and your help is essential!

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at mwallace@sacstepsforward.org or call 916-993-7702.

Sincerely,
Maya Wallace
External Affairs Director

GOOD NEWS - THE 2015 STEWARDSHIP CAMPAIGN IS COMING TO A CLOSE!

The Vestry is humbled by the generosity that abounds in our Cathedral.  One of the primary responsibilities of the Vestry is to ensure the financial viability of the Cathedral and to support the ongoing efforts of the many wonderful ministries that make Trinity Cathedral your home

To everyone who has already submitted their pledge, thank you!  The Vestry pledges to be prudent stewards of your generosity.  If you haven't been able to turn in your pledge card yet, you still have time.  If you lost your pledge form, don't despair. You can email or call in your pledge.  Email your pledge to bookeeper@trinitycathedral.org or call Jerry Paré  at 930-8032.

Some may wonder why a formal pledge is important if you are continuing to make your regular offering.  It is essential for building a responsible budget.  Trinity has a wonderfully successful track record of receiving the vast majority of your pledges.  Your pledge allows the Vestry to intelligently allocate anticipated revenue to meet the Cathedral's current operating needs and to prepare for the future.

Others may wonder how their pledge dollars are spent. Here is how the Vestry currently allocates each pledge dollar.

31 cents supports Trinity's multifaceted WORSHIP

activities

29 cents funds Trinity's multidimensional LEARNING

activities

15 cents is used to CARE for the needs of others

11 cents directed to Trinity's SERVICE efforts

14 cents focuses on BUILDING RELATIONSHIP

within Trinity

As you can see, 100 cents of each pledge dollar is used to further Trinity's mission - A Growing Community Making Disciples Who Love and Serve Christ and His World!

Every pledge matters and brings us closer to Trinity's 2015 Pledge Goal of $995,000.00.

As of January 12, Trinity has received 303 pledges totaling $834,000.

Please prayerfully consider whether you are in a position to be a Trinity pledger in 2015.

Sincerely,

Kevin Donohue, Senior Warden

Vestry Nominations

It is time for the members of Trinity Cathedral to select Vestry representatives, who discern the mission of the Cathedral today and in the future, and set goals and priorities to support its mission. The Vestry also is responsible for the Cathedral having the necessary funds, and necessary and appropriate physical assets, to accomplish its mission. Please consider this opportunity to serve.

Follow this link for the Cathedral's job description for a Vestry representative, and this link for the format to apply.

Contact Senior Warden Kevin Donohue at KFDSAC@att.net or Loren Weatherly at loren.weatherly@gmail.com if you have questions. Completed applications must be submitted to the Cathedral Office by January 19.

Cathedral Organ Restoration underway!

On Monday morning, phase one of the Cathedral organ restoration began. Technician Phil Browning began work installing the new electronics in the organ console. The new computer system will allow the organist to use one-hundred full levels of memory, which is a little bit of an upgrade from the current ONE level of memory!

In the coming weeks the primary reservoir will be replaced, the Great and Swell expression motors replaced, and then a thorough cleaning and regulation of pipes will happen.

Sometime in late May, the new pedal principal pipes for the organ façade will be delivered, installed, and voiced, and phase one will be complete.

Again, a huge thank you to all who have supported this project. We are overwhelmed with gratitude for the generosity of so many people!
