"A Growing community making disciples who love and serve Christ and His world"
       Brian Baker

Perhaps my favorite line in the Bible is the last sentence of Matthew's gospel.  "And remember I am with you always, until the end of the age."  I am reminded of this sentence often when I think about Christmas.  God is with us, always.  The story of God entering humanity in the form of a child, being born in humble circumstances to an unremarkable couple points to a deeper reality: God is with us in all circumstances of our lives.  Even in the business of preparing for Christmas.  God is with you.  Right now.  I invite you to breathe, and open yourself to the presence of God in your heart as you read these words, and as you continue on with whatever it is you need to do this day.

Blessings,

Brian

Thank you!

Thank you, thank you, thank you to all who made last Sunday's pageant possible!  I am very grateful to all our parents for their time, support and encouragement, to all our youth who assisted and supervised, to our children who participated so enthusiastically, to Elie Wu, David, and the choir for giving so graciously of their musical gifts, and to Judy Lane, Andrea Matarazzo, Kelly Catlett, and Sue Clark for the wonderful new costumes!

Thanks to everybody who has pledged for our current year's budget.

Your support makes the ministry at Trinity Cathedral possible.  December pledge statements are going out today.   As of the end of November, we have collected $784,243.  We need another $185,757 to reach our budgeted pledge amount of $970,000.  If you could complete your pledge by the end of the year it would be very helpful.

A FESTIVAL OF NINE LESSONS AND CAROLS

 THIS SATURDAY

December 20 at 7:30 pm

The Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols is a format for a service of Christian worship celebrating the birth of Jesuswhich is traditionally followed at Christmas. The story of the fall of humanity, the promise of the Messiah, and the birth of Jesus is told in nine short Bible readings, interspersed with the singing of carols, anthems, and hymns.

The service is based on an order drawn up by Edward White Benson, later Archbishop of Canterbury, for Christmas Eve 1880 in Truro, England, and has since been adapted and used by other churches all over the world. The best-known version is broadcast annually to millions of listeners around the world from King's College, Cambridge, on Christmas Eve, featuring carols sung by the famous King's College Choir.

The Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols will be presented at Trinity Cathedral on Saturday, December 20th at 7:30 pm. The music will be sung by the Cathedral Choir and Cathedral Choristers, and will include music by Leo Sowerby Boris Ord, Stanford Scriven, Francis Poulenc, David Willcocks, and much more. Please join us as we begin our Cathedral Christmas Celebration!

Please bring refreshments for the reception following the service. If you can help with plating refreshments before the service or serving after, please talk to Jean Gifford when you drop off your refreshments at the Kitchen. Thank you!

Safe Ground

Safe Ground Pilgrimage Update

We are pleased to welcome Michael Donnoe as our new Safe Ground Pilgrimage Coordinator! Michael was baptized and "grew up" at Trinity Cathedral. After being away for a period of time, he has "come home" and we are so glad to have him in our Cathedral family once again. Michael is truly the answer to prayer as he steps forward to direct one of our most important and significant outreach ministries.

The Safe Ground Pilgrimage provides the basic necessities of shelter, safety and meals to our vulnerable sisters and brothers who would otherwise be on the streets of Sacramento by collaborating with local churches and food banks. Trinity is privileged to host Safe Ground at least twice a month - more often as circumstances, resources and schedules allow.

To give you an idea of enormity of the issue of homelessness facing our community and the essential nature of the Safe Ground ministry, we have some startling statistics to share with you. During 2014, Trinity Cathedral alone provided 3,477 meals and hosted 1,087 overnight guests! Other communities of faith in partnership with Safe Ground share similar numbers served.

Look for more information about Michael and opportunities to work with him to support Safe Ground in upcoming newsletters.

Throughout the year, and especially during this holy season, please remember to hold those served by Safe Ground in prayer and be thankful for the abundance with which we are blessed that makes this important ministry possible.
