Brian Baker

I talk often about my appreciation for the many remarkable ministries and ministers at Trinity.    Stephen Ministry, Wednesday night dinners, Thursday night Compline/dinner/classes, our choirs, our worship and many other ministries combine to make Trinity a place of vibrancy and transformation.  While I frequently mention these ministries I don't speak often about the important ministry of generosity.   Generosity is an important spiritual discipline.  If we give out of our abundance, our abundance becomes more noticeable to us.  In a mysterious way, giving makes us more abundant.

Not only that, our shared ministry of generosity makes the other ministries at Trinity Cathedral possible.  Without our facility, our staff and programs, we would not have the infrastructure to support all the things we do as a Cathedral.  Trinity Cathedral would not be here without the shared generosity of all of us.

Yesterday pledge cards were mailed out to members of the Cathedral this past week.  We will have our official pledge ingathering on Sunday, November 23.  Please consider pledging for 2015.  Not only is your financial contribution essential for the transforming ministries of the Cathedral, the fact of filling out a pledge card is an important vote of support for the volunteers and staff who provide tireless service.

If you can join us on the 23rd, bring your card to church and they will be blessed as part of our worship.  If you can't be with us that Sunday, you can mail your card to the office or bring it on another Sunday.

Blessings,

Brian

Family Promise

Help Needed!

Family Promise is Looking for Volunteers!

Our Family Promise families return to Trinity on Sunday, December 7 and will be staying overnight with us through Saturday, December 13. For each night, we need volunteers to take on just one task:

  • Preparing a meal (you can drop it off and another volunteer will heat it up if you like)

  • Hosting for the evening (serving dinner and making sure the families have what they need: an extra blanket, a glass of water, a couple of aspirin from the meds box that comes with the families, or games and toys for the children)

  • Staying overnight to make sure the families are comfortable and are up at 6 a.m. to eat breakfast and get ready for the Family Promise van to take them to school/job training or other tasks they need to get done that day. (If you've ever thought of running a B&B, this is great training.)

  • On Saturday morning, we need folks to fix breakfast for the families.

  • On Sunday, December 14, we need people to help pack the Family Promise trailer and haul it to the next church, St. Mark's UMC. We also need someone to wash the bedding, which can be done at Trinity (check out the newer washer and dryer in back of the kitchen!) or at home.

Hosts need to be at the Great Hall between 5 and 5:30 p.m. and stay until 8, when the overnight hosts arrive. Dinner is served at 6 p.m. and yes, hosts are encouraged to eat with the families. Overnight hosts bring a sleeping bag or favorite blanket and pillow (we have cots) and sleep in the Great Hall. Trinity families are especially great at being hosts, so we encourage them to come meet the Family Promise families.

Please see the sign-up sheet in the office hallway just outside of the door to the Great Hall and add your name, or contact Eleanor Taniguchi at ehtaniguchi@gmail.com

Clothes Closet

On Friday, October 24th, our Clothes Closet was open for families at Floyd School. There were 23 families that were given clothes which has just a about depleted the inventory, according to Josephine Hein one of the clothes closet managers. We are asking for your help in bringing in gently used children's clothes from infant to size 16 childrens. The winter months are coming and the children will need long sleeved shirts and long pants as well as jackets and sweat shirts.

Please bring your donations to the barrel on the stairs on the second floor.

Fruit Cups The Back Snack program is in need of granola bars, Raman soup, fruit cups, macaroni and cheese boxes, oatmeal packets and cans of tuna.  You may also bring those items to the Floyd school barrels near the stairs. You may also write checks to Trinity Cathedral and label it for "Floyd School".

Thank you for your help.

Blessings,
Dale Reinhard and Canon Nancy Tennyson

Annual Transgender
Day of Remembrance Candlelight Vigil

Saturday, November 22, 2014, at 6:30 pm

at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral

Trinity Cathedral will host the annual interfaith candlelight vigil in observance of the 16th International Transgender Day of Remembrance. All are welcome.

Speakers:
  • Nick Gorton, MD, Lyon-Martin Health Services
  • Sage Fox, Capt. US Army Reserve, Transgender Rights Activist
  • Devon Marchant, Transgender Community Advocate

The Transgender Day of Remembrance memorializes those killed due to anti-transgender hatred or prejudice. The first memorial was a candlelight vigil in Boston in November 1999 to honor Rita Hester, murdered in 1998. Since then, annual memorials on this day have been observed around the world. This vigil will be dedicated to the memories of Carina Holleran, Carol Byers and Ruby Molina among our many brothers and sisters who have fallen to ignorance and intolerance.

Please join our reception after the memorial.
